Blackberry Gets Her Chance in The Demoiselle

The Demoiselle – Grade II [KYO]
AQU   Race #4   1 1/8m   Dirt   Graded Stake
Purse $300.000  For Fillies Two Years Old.

1 What A Troublemaker, trained by Blushing Meadows
Still a maiden after four attempts, but with zero class structure at HRP, it doesnt really matter as she proved last time out. Taking on the grade one Chandelier she kept going nicely for fourth beaten just two lengths proving that she has the ability to be a factor in this race. Whilst it is a stretch to see her winning, her canny trainer will have her ready for a surprise, and you should write her off at your peril.

2 Blackberry, trained by Our Athletes
Her form is tough to read, but significantly she has run her best race from an inside draw, and with the two gate today, she may be ready for season win number four. The winner of the grade one Alcibiades, she was a strong fancy for the BC Juvenile Fillies last time out, but was taken way out the back, and though she made ground, could only manage ninth. She will have to be no worse than midpack today, but if she gets a decent trip, she will be among the favourites to win.

3 Midnight Constella, trained by Crocker Cgs
Has only contested sprints so far, but gives the impression that she needs a route trip to see her at her best. A maiden winner on turf, and close to being competitive in a couple of ungraded races since, it would be a shock if she won today but is entitled to be in the race.

4 Aurora Lights, trained by Mb Stables
Won her maiden on debut, but disappointed best time in a little allowance. She has posted an OK mile work, so is clearly better than those two efforts, but I struggle to see her being competitive here.

5 Clutched, trained by D J C Racing Stables
Another that won on debut, she has struggled a bit since, but gets her chance to prove herself today. I am not sure she has enough form to win this but will be battling for the minors.

6 Duggu Duggu, trained by Night Rider Stables
A good maiden winner in the wet last time, I am struggling to put her in the top three despite some consistent form in good maidens.

7 Easy Time, trained by Waldo
Tried to make all from a wide draw in The Chandelier last time and ran very well to hold onto third in the end. She looks like she has struggled with the trip in her last two races, so I think this mile and an eighth may be beyond her.

SUMMARY
A pretty weak race for a KYO points race, and this looks like Blackberry’s race to lose. What a Troublemaker should be thereabouts and Easy Time may last for third place.
