Bloodthirst Steps Towards Stall Memorial Stakes in Season Opener

Nakamura Stables is hoping that his four year old chestnut filly can continue building on her three separate wins last season, and start this year off ” thirsting ” for a victory.

  • Stall Memorial Stakes- Purse $100.000
  • Fair Grounds Race Course- Fillies & Mares Four Years old and Up
  • One Mile and one sixteenth- Turf track
  • February 15th, 2020

While narrowly miss capturing last years Gr. III Cardinal Handicap to a runner who finished runner-up in last weekends Suwannee River, Bloodthirst is hoping that she can capture her first ever stakes title. Her three wins last season came against OpClm company and Allowance runners, but she has managed to show she can put in a topnotch late effort.

The other runner in here who should give her a run for her money will be Absolute Bella ( Luz International ) who in her last start in the Gr. III My Charmer Hdcp. , she also closed in that event to go runner-up just a head bob shy. The plus for her is she earned a stellar 100 SRF figure for her efforts. She also earned her victories at the same levels of competition as Bloodthirst, so we may see these to riders being fixed on each other till the turn for home, then it will be winner take all down the stretch.

We must also consider two time winner and six for six in the money talent of Fill The Void from Mb Stables in post six. This trainer has once again hooked up with Bejarano for this event, and the two made a mark for themselves last season, each helping the other to Trainer and Jockey of the Year honors. Should be sent out along with inside rider Minnesotalus from The Sidley Stud to maintain some form of pace early on. Hopefully the duo can sets some mediocre fractions leaving nothing to run at late, then turn on the burners and keep the late runners from gaining any ground.

The final two runners will be number four Light The Fuse ( Diablo Diablo ) and number five Threshold’s French Box. Light The Fuse has been winless in her last seven tries, but has gone runner-up in four of those seven. Here closest to a victory came in an Alw75 affair at WO where see lost in the photo by a nose. Being a Maid Of Honor can only go so far, she needs a win and soon or she may be packed off this season to the sheds.

With French Box, she has been winless in her last six starts, and she definitely has a preference for the grass over the dirt. All her top three earnings have come on the turf, and she should be looking to charge late with the two late runners here. Hopefully rider Gaffalione will have her placed slightly closer coming off the turn so she doesn’t get shut out down the lane.
