1st Blowberg Estero Farms Velazquez J
It was all about pace in many races today as yet another front runner won bringing into question those rumours that front runners cant win at HRP. Running a first quarter slower than most route races this gelding took full advantage of his inside draw and cosied to the lead. Coming to halfway he piled on the pace and quickly built a winning break which he just held onto as the closers charged late. Previously this one had looked a promising router but trip means little at HRP so i am not sure his future is entirely sprinting, maybe a mile could end up being his niche trip.
2nd Cucamonga Tiratzo Centeno D E
For some reason his jockey backed off a really slow early pace and you only have to look at the splits for his last two races to see how he got beaten today. He was gaining with every stride at the end but failed by half a length to catch the winner whom he gave the winning break to.
3rd Del La Hoya D J C Racing Stables Gaffalione
Ran a great race considering his form was nowhere near any of these and he was coming from off a very slow sprinting pace. On this effort he could end up being a real improver and should be popped into those black books for his next run.
4th Pangong Mb Stables Talamo J
Clearly there was a big error in tactics here as this front runner was backed off a pace so slow he must have walked the first two furlongs. Ending up last early on there was no way he was going to make up enough ground and he actually did pretty well to end up fourth beaten just two lengths. The questions remain unanswered as to whether this ones best surface is turf or dirt.
