Bluetooth Baby is All “Rosey” with Colors Victory

As I posted in the preview, never turn your back on this trainer as he has a knack of pulling one out of the hat from time to time. In just his second full season here at HRP, Arindel had Bluetooth Baby out quickly on the front, and they just managed to squeak out a victory in a threeway photo.

  • Colors ( Gr. III ) Purse $125.000
  • Churchill Downs- For Fillies and Mares Four Years old and Up
  • Six furlongs in distance, Main Track

In just her first effort at competing in not only the stakes level, but the Graded company level as well, Bluetooth Baby put in an outstanding run to the wire to grab her first ever stakes victory. While Sweet Catomine ( John Henry ) quickly responded as Bluetooth Baby moved along her inside, it would take till the far turn before Bluetooth Baby would start to wear down Sweet Catomine and put a head in front. At the top of the lane, the Arindel four year old had grabbed a three quarters of a length lead after the half mile went in a keen 45.64. Progressing done the stretch and now the closers were looking to spoil the show. A sixteenth to run and there was still only a gap of three quarters of a length between the top two as now Drunken Commander ( Aer Stables ) and Golden Hour ( D J C Racing Stables ) were now starting to close to the outside. The photo would show a nose victory for Bluetooth Baby over late comer Golden Hour, with La Marseillaise finding a hole late to shoot up into third. The final running time of 1:09.40 is now the sixth fastest time for the event. It was this trainers first Colors victory, and his seventh Grade III title. Its the second title for rider B J Hernandez Jr, now one back of three time winner Bridgmohan S X.

On her dam’s side, Bluetooth Baby has the Iroquois Warrior bloodlines, which has produced the likes of multi Graded winner Nile Warrior, so she has plenty of room to grow this season.

Snatching the place purse was Golden Hour, a two time previous stakes winner and will more then likely look to be competing at six or possibly seven panels in her next affair.

La Marseillaise could of if she found an opening sooner, may have walked away with the victory. The re-add of the blinkers was definitely the key to getting her back on her game, and if she attempts the restricted one mile Dream Of Summer Stakes at SA next month, the distance may just work to her favor.
