#1 Speightstown (Nakamura Stables/L.J. Luzzi): Gelding didn’t run in the first two legs of this series, but he enters here after a score at the G2 level last out. That win was his turf bow and he looks to be a bit quicker in the early going on the lawn; if that continues, he’s well drawn to take advantage.
#2 Digital Devil (Night Rider Stables/J.R. Leparoux): Claimed for $7.50 in late August, this is an ambitious spot for his barn debut. Lone turf try came at the end of lasst season, but that OTB effort was going much shorter. Not a whole lot to go on, but this barn is known for this kind of move.
#3 State General (Mb Stables/D. Van Dyke): Gelding has been third in the first two legs of the Canadian TC and he was only beaten a length and a half combined. Both of his wins were over the lawn, so the surface switch is a positive for him. Looks to have a big chance in here.
#4 Deactivation (Mb Stables/Ru. Silvera): G3 runner-up at SAR last out, his lone victory this season was in a local allowance. He should be a factor from the start based on his form going shorter and figures to sit a good trip. Looks to be 2nd best of the three barn has entered.
#5 Black Card (Wood Duck Stables/D. Moran): Going to excuse the G3 effort at KD as the gelding didn’t appear to care for the give in the ground that day. He’s a three-time winner in ’22 and just missed in a $100.000 stake here in late July. A clean break and more early gas would aid his chances here.
#6 Twenty Twenty (Threshold/F. Pennington): Took a confidence-building allowance at FE in prep for this as he faces his sixth black-type field of the season. Previous dllies have been hit or miss, but he looks like one that will be hitting his best stride in the latter stages of this marathon event.
#7 Bruddafrmanuddamudda (Arindel/C.J. Hernandez): 4th and 2nd in the previous legs, he has only one 3rd-placed run on turf. That result was at a similar level last season, but he’s been a useful horse on the main track since. Versatility will aid his chances here, but he’s not as well-drawn as the runner-up from the 2nd leg.
#8 Talador (Mb Stables/G. Corrales): Barn’s third entrant has yet to defeat winners in four tries. Last out was a runner-up in a LAD N1X that went in a really solid time. Has the speed to be involved early and his best runs have come when he’s been close to the front.
#9 Heat Dome (Black N Gold Stable/P. Lopez): Gelding has enjoyed a very solid 2022 with three wins from five starts. All of that has come in races going between 8 and 9 furlongs for this outfit since the claim in November. Two stakes against open company weren’t encouraging, but he may appreciate the drop to restricted company.
Final Analysis: 3-7-5 is how we see the finale of the Canadian TC ending. Good luck to all involved in the Breeders Stakes!
