BC Weekend is finally here and the 15th running of the G1 BC Juvenile Fillies Turf will be one of the marquee events on Friday’s card.  An overflow field of 17 passed through the entry box but Manistique, Classy Four, and So Classy will have to sit on the AE list to see if any of those in the main body of the field withdraw.  To say we have an interesting field for this one would be an understatement as we have nine trainers represented by many of the horses that dominated the prep races for this 1-mile contest as well as one runner who doesn’t even have a published workout on the grass, much less a race over the lawn.  Who will become the 17th winner of the G1 BC Juvenile Fillies Turf?  Let’s meet the field:

#1 Fight To Love (Williams9/L. Salles): $92.76 auction buy rewarded the new outfit’s faith with a rallying, 3rd-place finish in the G1 Natalma.  She’s not the fastest worker in the field; however, she’s been consistent with her efforts regardless of trip/surface.  Improvement in her 2nd try on the lawn makes her dangerous from the rail.

#2 Coin Neckless (Oquinn Farm/F.T. Alvarado): Homebred broke her maiden at DMR prior to back-to-back third-place finishes versus stakes’ company.  Work tab looks decent enough and she’s shown enough versatility in her races to take advantage of this draw.  Familiar face in the saddle only adds to her appeal.

#3 Diamond Pearls (Nakamura Stables/S. Elliott): Debut-winner looks to have appreciated getting the chance to stretch her legs on the grass.  She ran a bang-up 2nd here last month in the G2 Jessamine, but the 5f move on 10/24 doesn’t pop off of the page.  She does deserve respect for earning her spot from a much worse draw than what she received here.

#4 Super Pretty (Team 7 Illusions/C. Landeros): ELP maiden-winner didn’t disappoint her connections with a good 3rd at KD.  Filly will be running off of a 60+ day break, but the work tab is right there in regards to her competition.  Jockey switch appears to be a lateral move and she should be rallying late.

#5 Silver Cobra Woman (Arindel/E. Jaramillo): G3 Surfer Girl victory secured her spot and she brings a modest two-race winning streak into this engagement.  Worth noting that both victories came on “regular” rest while her three tries on “short” rest did not produce a win.  Should get her preferred stalking trip, but the rest is a legitimate concern.

#6 Broadway Lady (Arindel/J.R. Velazquez): Her three starts are the fewest in the field; however, she’s just a head shy of being a G1 winner.  She’s produced positive results with differing tactics and her 10/24 drill says that she’s here for more than just the experience.  Tons of upside for a filly that could truly be any kind.

#7 Nevada Jess (Nakamura Stables/E.J. Zayas): Wired a LAD MSW prior to rallying for place-honors in the G2 Miss Grillo over a soft AQU turf course.  She’s only raced four times so she hasn’t reached her ceiling, but the 10/23 move doesn’t boost enthusiasm.  Drills aside, there’s nothing disheartening about her last two races.

#8 Your Demise (Luz International/L.J. Luzzi): Two-time TX-bred stake winner on dirt was a close 3rd in G2 Sorrento before floundering in G1 DMR Debutante.  Rebounded in her turf debut with a late-running score in G2 Jessamine.  Homebred retains the services of the rider for that victory and has demonstrated a keen sense for finding the wire.

#9 Techfluence High (The Sidley Stud/D.E. Centeno): OT Juvenile Fillies Turf victress couldn’t replicate that success in G3 Surfer Girl.  She did have to start from stall 12 at SA, but she fares little better with this post.  Not a lot of recency on the work tab; however, the 08/08 drill at MTH screams racehorse.

#10 Greek (Mb Stables/L. Saez): Tagged for $50.000 in maiden-breaker, lass has continued her momentum by taking consecutive stakes.  G2 Miss Grillo score was impressive/lucrative enough to retain pilot’s services, and that trainer/jockey combination alone demonstrates respect is warranted.  Filly has yet to tast defeat in three starts on the lawn.

#11 Fay (Arindel/D. Moran): PRX debut-winner has only hit the board once in four starts since, but the near miss at DMR and DH 4th at KEE were enough to get her in the gate here.  Unlike a few of these, she tends to work better than she’s raced thus far; however, that narrative can change quickly on Friday.  DMR effort showed she can produce from a sub-optimal post.

#12 Spun Around (Mb Stables/Mario Gutierrez): Debut-winning homebred has been a very useful earner with three placings at stakes’ level prior to winning turf bow in G1 Natalma.  Used a strong, late rally at WO from the same post she has here, but she doesn’t have to be too far back and she usually brings her race with her.

#13 Chrystal Cave (Maletto/A.A. Gallardo): Filly has certainly dominated PA-bred foes  as she’s 4-4 with three stakes’ wins against state-bred company.  Didn’t fare too poorly against non-PA-bred foes, but she was 0-2 with a place and a show.  All of that running was done on the main track and there’s no turf works on her page either.  A rare BC mystery.

#14 Coping Mechanism (Mb Stables/R.M. Hernandez): Trainer has probably tried several coping mechanisms in trying to deal with his Friday draws, but that’s a story for another day.  Filly finally found a NY-bred MSW field she could handle in her 4th try and almost doubled-up when she just missed in G2 Jessamine.  She was a bit further back in that last one, and that experience could help her with this post; however, don’t think she’ll be too hard to find early here.

Final Analysis: Intriguing field for the G1 BC Juvenile Fillies Turf, but we’re going heavy on Broadway Lady and Greek.  We’ll also use Techfluence High in hopes that she’s a square price.  Congratulations to everyone in the field and good luck in the G1 BC Juvenile Fillies Turf!
