Shake it up baby!!  Broken Tap had thrown a pair of off races coming into Thursday’s Dominion Day Stakes (GIII) but the 6yo gelding, trained by Arindel, sat mid-pack, responded when asked and went on to take this one by three-quarters of a length, traveling the mile and a sixteenth in 1:461 on the sloppy main track, here in Toronto.  My top choice, Burning Approval was second, after stalking the pace throughout most of this one, and Downward Roll was another three-quarters of a length back in third, closing well but running out of real estate.  Combat Wombat did all of the heavy lifting, setting the pace into the lane, but tired in the late stages to be fourth.

Broken Tap is a 6yo bay gelding by Snow Tap – Lady Of Vain, by Quench, and he was bred in FLA by Our Athletes.  Acquired by current owner Arindel via Private Purchase for $20.000, this was his thirteenth win from thirty-six starts and he has earnings of $1,607.150.  It’s great to see this veteran get back into the winner circle, Congrats to the connections!

Broken Tap taken back early, moved up when asked 5p far turn, engaged leader at the sixteenth pole, won driving.  Burning Approval saved ground just behind the pace, moved up on the inside into the lane, brief lead, game effort.  Downward Roll tracked the early pace, taken back into the first turn, quickly moved forward midway into the far turn, good late effort.  Combat Wombat sent from the gate to secure a rail position, set the pace to the sixteenth pole, out-kicked late.  Set In Space rated, passed tiring rivals.  Buffalo G alert start, tracked the pace setter, up to engage the leader at the top of the lane, no excuse.  A Classy Beast sharp break, tracked the pace to the far turn, tired.  Rotten Apple was never involved. Duke King showed some speed until mid-way on the far turn, tired.  High Fives was outrun.
