Buck Warrior Looks to Cement Her Reputation

Shady Well Stakes
WO   Race #2   6 1/2f   Turf   Stake
Purse $150.000  For Fillies Two Years Old Foaled In ON

1 She Needsa Brazilian, trained by Hawaiian Shirt Guy
I really hope the trainer didnt name this one after their wife! Despite the iffy name, this daughter of Condottieri is certainly a live chance at earning enough for a trip to the beauticians. Her win last time in a decent time in an allowance on this track was pretty good, and with a 1.10 and 2 work on the track, I would be taking a  serious look at her, especially from the ace draw.

2 Forgive Her, trained by Team 7 Illusions
Still a maiden, but very nearly won her debut and is a nice sort. She hasn’t got the home work of the best of these, so I can’t see her winning, but she takes her chance and is entitled to be in the field.

3 Phunk, trained by Eastern equine
Won a dirt maiden on this track before struggling a little in the Nandi Stakes, weakening from a stalk position. She has been working very strongly on the turf, so I expect a much improved showing today, and she certainly has a winning chance.

4 First Choice, trained by Asgar
Just in front of Phunk in that Nandi Stakes, we have no recent public turf works to go on, so have to take on trust her ability to act on this surface. Her dirt works are good, and I dont think her trainer would throw her in here with no clue how she will act on turf. She could turn out to be the dark horse.

5 Sprint Gift, trained by Nigh Rider Stables
Claimed from a maiden, which she won by no less than eight lengths, she is a throw-in by her trainer and is not without a chance of a big pay back. Her works are strong and improving, and that can be a lethal combination.

6 Buck Warrior, trained by Canadian Racing
Unbeaten in 2 races, she won the Nandi Stakes with both Phunk and First Choice behind, so must carry enormous respect coming into this race. Her turf works are even stronger than her dirt works, so any improvement on this surface will see her strolling home here by open air.

7 Lady Brit, trained by Lemax Farms
Won her maiden on this track and has been breaking the stop watches on the gallops. If she handles the wide draw, she could be the biggest danger to Buck Warrior.

SUMMARY
Looking at the work times, this could easily be an older horse graded stakes, that’s just how silly the fast development has got here at HRP. One things for sure, these horses will all be beating the older horses come May next year, but until then they have to face off against each other. Buck Warrior looks the class of the race, but she will have to be at her best to beat Lady Brit and Phunk.
