The Eclipse Stakes – Grade II
WO Race 2 1 1/16M – Dirt
Purse $175.000
Four Year Olds and Up
1st Call Your Doctor, trained by Crocker Ggs
The Tokyo City Cup runner up went ahead and just decided to cruise to an easy two length victory in this race with ease. The track was fast and he really liked the surface north of the border with this really easy win. He ran the distance in 1:41.26 and earned $105.000 for his victory.
2nd Sweep The Fire, trained by Smokey Stover
My pick to win this race came oh so close to winning but ultimately wasn’t good enough to beat the winner. He still ran pretty decent though and it wasn’t a bad performance that he ran at all. Basically what it came down to was the horse that beat him was just better than him on this day.
3rd Kiss The Snake, trained by Nakamura Stables
The used to sprinter and graded winner over this track ran a respectable third in here with his closing. He say towards the back most of the way as then passed a couple to get up in the show spot. Maybe if he would’ve ended up letting closer he could’ve gotten a win or at least second in here.
4th Surprising, trained by Threshold
The SUN Handicap runner up ran a decent fourth in here after trying to win the race from a midpack trip. He ran a decent race to at least get up for some purse money and not go home empty handed. He might do better next out in a smaller stakes race or something to that effect or sort.
Summary
Basically all this race boils down to is that the winner just ran them of their feet with no problem at all. It was really a breakthrough performance for him with how easy he won and it being his first graded stakes victory of his life. The runner up and third place finisher also ran respectable races.
