This is one of those honest types who earns his keep, he is no superstar but with so little between a claimer and a superstar these days he could easily break through in a race like this especially when you see his recent works. I have a suspicion we may be seeing some magical overnight improvement that can happen at HRP and he may be ready to run a big race and go on to bigger and better things.

2 One Command Chili King Stables Arroyo N Jr

With just two wins from twenty starts its hard to make a convincing case for him but he is another honest sort who generally runs a solid race. He was only four lengths back in the grade one Kilroe Mile but then a one legged donkey can be beaten four lengths in a grade one these days so i am not sure thats a good pointer. A better indication of his ability would be a battling third in the Dangers Hour but that sort of sums him up. A place chance at best i would say despite the perfect draw.

Like most four year olds he hasnt been able to carry on the form he showed as a three year old but nevertheless he does look a class entry for this race and is certainly better than an ungraded stakes horse. Sixth beaten just one length in the BC Dirt Mile last year he didnt run on turf at all but switched to this surface at the start of this year and picked up a sprint stakes race. He ran well to be a close third in the Kona Stakes back on dirt next up but was a little disappointing in his last two so reverts to turf for another go at the green stuff. I guess the trip is the big question mark but he was storming home in the BC over the mile so it is possible he will be OK at this distance. The only other thing to be concerned about is the 128 Lbs and that may be what stops him

Another that falls into the honest type but unproven beyond this type of race he has been very impressive at overnight level but ran pretty poorly in the Fort Macey when tested in grade three company. The silly thing is in finishing tenth in that race he recorded a higher speed figure than he did when winning a strong mile allowance at CD in a sub 1.33 time so your guess is as good as mine as to what that means. His works are solid but again i think a place may be his best chance.

On the face of it this horse is very consistent, again not a superstar but a solid type that always runs its heart out. He ran his best race this year when beaten just a neck in the Unusual Heat Turf Classic over nine furlongs and once again showed HRP’s fragility when it comes to a horses best trip but winning an open allowance over five and a half furlongs last time. It seems with the right instruction you could could turn Red Rum into a sprinter so i have no problem with this return to routing.

Another example of a five furlong winner performing well at longer trips he hasnt achieved as much as some but the trainer doesnt tend to run in these type of race without a good chance so you have to respect this entry.

Hold the phone, after all i have written about the chances of the other horses in this race i forgot the three year olds. So of course with only two in the race all we have to do is guess which will win and which will finish second. Working 1.09 and 2 for the six furlongs and getting 5 Lbs from the older horses should be enough to see this one home despite the fact he has only raced 5 times and won twice at overnight level. Such is my confidence in the rather silly situation we find ourselves in i am not even worried about the widish draw.

The other three year old a 1.34 and 3 for the turf mile should be enough to see him into second despite a never dangerous sixth in this grade last time against his own age group and of course a wide draw.

As good and classy as this horse is if he wins from the wide gate with 130Lbs then he may just be the best horse that ever ran at HRP.

SUMMARY

As convinced as i am that a three year old will win this race you cannot deny that Im Special is working the sorts of times a BC winner would be proud of. So i guess if the magic dust has settled on him then he could well overturn the trends and beat a fairly average looking couple of three year olds.
