The three year olds dominate this sort of race and Mb Stables sends this one here with no stakes form but work times that say graded stakes winner. A good draw and wins in his ast two races will make him a threat.
2 No Chill Team 7 Illusions Hernandez J J
He has been highly tried this year first attempting but failing to get in the KYD and then taking on the BEL where he didnt run badly from an impossible draw. He again faced a wide draw in the BEL Derby last time and couldnt get in the race but gets a good gate here and this may be his opportunity to get back to winning ways.
3 First Class Living Estero Farms Sanchez M J
The KYD winning trainer sends this gelding here with a fair chance although his form isnt as exposed as others. He has improved since winning a maiden claimer in April and ran well in the Iselin Stakes last time suggesting he is on the up.
4 Psychotic Ruler D J C Racing Stables Lanerie C J
He reverted to sprinting after failing in the FL Derby and some other top route races and has done well cashing in in some good races. The trip remains a question mark.
5 Lord High Admiral John Henry Desormeaux K J
In the minority being older than three but at his best could give the youngsters something to think about. His work times and the weight allowance suggest however that he may struggle.
6 American Ideal Nakamura Stables Paucar E
Maybe the best hope of the older generation he ran a cracker to be third in the Suburban Handicap last time and if anything can break the three year old domination he can.
7 Smoking Makes You Il Maxmillion Farm Baze T C
Bought for $155.000 after placing at ungraded level his works suggest he is better than that and his new owner will be hoping for some quick playback.
8 Quench My Soul Mb Stables Centeno D E
The inevitable second entry from the stable he is similar to hs stable mate in that he has shown plenty of improvement in the past few months. He was an impressive winner in The Turning For Home last time and if he can cope with the wide draw should be right in it at the end.
9 Nice Distorted Laff Night Rider Stables Smith M E
If he was drawn inside i would be giving him a major chance for the older horses but he will have to make all from a wide gate to win here and that has proved a tough ask at this level. If he gets a soft lead he will be tough to pass.
SUMMARY
I guess its just a matter of picking the best three year old although none are outstanding so its not an easy task. Quench My Soul could be the one if he can get a sit from his wide gate and if the three’s dont win then it could be American Ideal who bucks the trend.
