Can Blackberry Defy Her Stature Again in The Mother Goose?

The Mother Goose – Grade II (P2)
BEL   Race #3   1 1/16m   Dirt   Graded Stake
Purse $250.000  For Fillies Three Years Old.

1 Mortality, trained by John Henry
When this filly took the Alexander she looked like she was going to take the filly’s division by storm. She went on to finish strongly in the Ashland to be a very close second but since then has looked a little more mortal. She weakened from a wide gate in the KYO but failed to bounce back in the Black Susan last time from a much better draw and questions have started to be asked about her. It may be inconsistency or it may be something else but she will need a decent show here to start to gain some of that reputation back.

2 Blackberry, trained by Our Athletes
This is a real tough little filly who stands at only 15.1hh and yet continues to defy her height with great efforts. Behind Mortality in the Ashland she had her well behind in the KYO when a brilliant third and then again in the Black eyed Susan when she gained a thrilling victory. Her last work was a full second behind Mortality’s last work but that just adds to the intrigue as to what is going to happen today. On form atleast she is a top hope.

3 Lake Charles, trained by Oquinn Farm
A progressive filly she has been winning overnights in good style before taking on black type last time out. That was in the Kent Stakes and although it was just a small purse and a small field she won easily and could be just the sort to explode on the scene in this race.

4 Pip Knows Skeleton, trained by Chili King Stables
Got the wide gate speed push in the KYO and predictably weakened into eighth from the car park draw she bounced back to her best in the Melair Stakes last time finishing like a train to be a very close third. An on pace type of she can find the stalk today she should be right in it down teh stretch.

5 Agent Bleu, trained by Mb Stables
Took the Gazelle in fine style but then dissapointed last time in the Black Eyed Susan. She shouldnt be able to beat Blackberry on that form today but her works are strong and a different variable may see her turn the tables.

6 Guest Of Honor, trained by Mb Stables
Won four in a row heading into the KYO including the grade two Davona Dale and the GP Oaks. Strangely she never got into the KYO finishing a poor tenth but that may have been down to the sloppy ground. Not the best worker but a return to form and a firmer surface should make her hard to beat.

7 Que Seras Creeps, trained by D J C Racing Stables
A real tough filly she has been thereabouts in all the top exchanges. Having said that whilst she has performed well she has been beaten by all the top runners in this race and i would have to think that she will find it just too hard again.

SUMMARY
On paper this should be between Blackberry and Guest Of Honor but with nothing much between any of them it will probably come down to who gets the luck in running today.
