Going runner-up in this years Gr. II Pocahontas to Rabbit For A Cause and missing her free pass to the BC Juvenile Fillies event, this will be Blonde Bomber’s last chance at being able to just head to the front of the entry line with a victory here at Belmont.

While many handicappers and horse players are looking towards Relax ( Mb Stables ) who has won five straight this season as the shoe-in for this years BC Juvenile Fillies winner, there are twelve fillies entered here today who are hoping to get the chance to prove their worth in that event, and make sure that Relax will have to earn a victory if that ends up being the outcome in early November. Five of this Sunday’s entries are coming off their maiden wins and that can make for a challenging handicapping session. Lets run down this group and see what they have to offer.
Weight- 119 pounds
Changes- #3- Icy Bay– blinkers removed
Number following trainer is win percentage with two year olds.
1 One Shot Latte ( Nakamura Stables) ( 16.8%) Cancel E– This chestnut filly out of Chai Latte has two starts this season, and her most recent was her maiden victory winning by two going six furlongs. Gets to add another two furlongs which should play well for her and she has been rested for 40+ days. Needs to stay close to be effective.
2 Zombie Storm ( La Canada Racehorses ) ( 18.9%) Saez G– After his purchase of this two year old in late June, trainer was able to get here to the winners circle and claim her maiden victory. Followed that up with a runner-up finish in the Generous Portion Stakes. Trainer has earned 44% of his career earnings from two year olds, so he can transform them into winners. Will be tracking.
3 Icy Bay ( Gdp Inc. ) ( 16.4%) Van Dyke D – Broke her maiden in first asking of the season at PEN. Missed only by a head going slightly longer with the addition of blinkers in an Alw87 race. Most recently she tested the mile, and while she was on top at the three quarter mark, she would only lose by a length in third. Blinkers come off but I think the distance could have her fading slightly once again.
4 Blonde Bomber ( Smokey Stover ) ( 25.4%) Beschizza A – While she already sits in ninth place in the BC Juvenile Fillies standings, I know her trainer would like to add this event and grab her first Graded title. Earned a 92 SRF for her effort in the Pocahontas, and their is just one better runner coming out of her last race. Should get top billing here.
5 Royal Palace ( Waldo ) ( 18.6%) Espinoza V – Has just one lone start this season and she competed at the Fort where she walked away with a two length victory at six panels. The final time was not sub 1:10 like others in here, but this trainer also has earned 48% of his career wealth from juveniles. He is definitely looking to expand on his twenty dollar investment today. Needs a stellar finish late.
6 Speed Creep ( Jive Inc. ) ( 19.7%) Pennington F – Opened up the year winning her maiden, then coming to this barn she stepped up to the Gr. III Schuylerville where she finished three lengths shy. Trainer already as Rabbit For A Cause with a ticket and would like to do the same with this one. Two seasons ago he went runner-up here with La Terrifiant, then led that one to a BC Juvenile Fillies title. Will we see it again?
7 Little Baby Bomber ( Aer Stables ) ( 15.6%) Wilson E J – Was unable to win a minor MdSpWt9 in the first of her career, so her trainer added Lasix, stepped her right up to a MdSpWt90 at Saratoga, and she wins like a champion by a length in a closing effort going seven eights. Will like the added furlong and second time Lasix can be a threat. Does have best SRF figure in her most recent with 95. In the Hunt.
8 Shes A Native ( Mb Stables ) ( 24.3%) Talamo J – First of two for this trainer, found a sloppy footing at Gulfstream in her most recent maiden event, and after two attempts she brought home the win. That was over a mile at a very slow 1:41 and three for the final time, and second time on Lasix. Footing will be fast here an she will need to be close to be effective.
9 Freaking Me Out ( Mb Stables ) ( 24.3%) Prat F – Liking this one slightly more then her stablemate. Broke her maiden at DMR in mid August then took a shot at the Pocahontas in her most recent with others entered here and struggled with her outside post but closed to within five. Should be better placed for this event an Prat is still aboard. Better focus today.
10 Sweet Charis ( La Canada Racehorses ) ( 18.9%) Bravo J– Second for this trainer and one of two with five career starts. After being claimed in early May, this trainer made some changes adding Lasix and a shadow roll, and she would break her maiden in first asking. Most recently she closed at a mile event for OpClm40, with a final time of 1:35 and four. Will be looking to charge late for a share.
11 Centrique ( John Henry ) ( 13.0%) Ortiz I Jr. – A recent purchase at the beginning of last month, was last raced at GG going a mile and a sixteenth and the bay filly closed sharply for a one length maiden victory. Definitely needs to be racing in route affairs with her closing kick and the add of Bute for her win may have been the answer. The med stays and watch for her off the turn for home.
12 Local Lass ( D J C Racing Stables) ( 13.0%) Hernandez R – Has drawn the dreaded 12 hole for this event, and when she broke from the nine hole in the Pocahontas last time out, she tried to go early and that failed for her. Rider is an early runner but I hope Dom instructs him to allow her to drop to the rail near the back instead, leaving her room to move coming off the far turn. All depends upon placement.
