One Scratch Leaves Nine for the Hill Prince

The Hill Prince – GII (P2)

BEL Race 8 1 1/8M – InTurf

Three Year Olds

A field of nine runners has been entered for this years running of the grade two Hill Prince here at Belmont. There was ten entries but there has been one scratch already so it will go with nine unless there are any more defections. Let’s take a look at the field.

1. Freaky Onez (7-2-0-0 $183.180), trained by Maxmillion Farm

The first runner we come across in the field right here is coming into this race off of a win in the grade three Virginia Derby at Colonial Downs. He beat that field by a very easy two lengths that day. This is a tougher spot though so he will have to run even better to win here.

2. Dead Madness (11-6-3-1 $1494.900), trained by John Henry

This next runner here is a two time grade one winner on the year in the Belmont Derby and the Arlington Million. He ran third in the JC Derby but that was a terribly run race that had a rabbit so I give that a look over. I think he will be very tough to beat in here.

3. Concert Party (11-2-2-1 $91.940), trained by Diablo Diablo

This next runner is coming into this race off of a seventh place finish in the West Point at Saratoga. Before that he did run second in the grade three American Derby at Arlington over a soft turf course. He will have to run the best race of his career to win here

4. Dreaming Of Pirates (10-4-1-0 $440.000), trained by Estero Farms

Another grade one winner in the field here and this horse won the grade one Secretariat Stakes at Arlington this summer. His last start was pretty disappointing when he ran twelfth in the Woodbine Mile. I think he is better at this distance and he is back with three year olds so he should be tough.

5. Devilish Details (13-5-1-2 $430.600), trained by Mb Stables

The first of two for Mb Stables here and this horse is making a return to the turf after two tries on the dirt. He won the grade two Wise Dan earlier this year in his last turf start so he could win this race. I think he is definitely better on the turf and he should run a big race.

6. Prince Of Theories (9-5-1-0 $258.650), trained by Mb Stables

The other runner for Mb Stables right here and this horse is coming into this race off of a second place finish in the grade two Del Mar Derby. He set the pace that day and got tired late so the cutback should help a little bit. If he takes back a little he will be right there at the wire.

7. Zero Annuity (10-2-2-0 $250.870), trained by Nakamura Stables

Also making a return to the turf is this runner right here but it seems to me that he is better on the dirt. Both of his turf starts were not very good and he has ran well on the dirt in his last two starts. I do not see him having much of a chance in this spot.

8. Name In Lights (9-2-1-0 $48.040), trained by TwinTowers Racing

A maiden winner just two races back but it seems the lightbulb went off with that maiden score as he won a first level allowance race in his last start. He is coming into this race off of two wins in a row but this is his first try against stakes company so he will have to run huge to win.

9. Confined (11-4-2-1 $340.500), trained by Mb Stables

Scratched

10. Multiple Shadows (8-3-1-2 $117.410), trained by Our Athletes

Last runner that we come across in the field right here and this runner is coming into this race off of a stakes win in the Jersey Derby at Monmouth. That was his first stakes win and he ran pretty good that day but he will have to run even better to have a chance to win in here.

Summary

Well to me it is pretty obvious who the one horse that draws your eye in here is the two time grade one winner Dead Madness. He has been very good up to this point and I think he gets back to his winning ways in here. Good luck to all in the field.
