Edgewood – Grade 2 – $500.000
CD – 1 1/16 Mile – Turf
For Fillies Three Years Old
May 5, 2023
Sinister City hasn’t lost a race since October, but she faces a strong field of fillies here. Can she do it again?
1 Sweet Feet (Mb Stables)
Only a maiden and allowance win for this filly, but she finished second in the Lady of Shamrock two starts back at this distance and on this track. Don’t look for her to be forward placed early, but she could be in the mix at the wire.
2 Chat My Ears Off (Riggins Racing)
Claimed for $32.000 in her last start, a five-length dead heat victory at this distance and on this track. Tough spot to try stakes for the first time but puts in a good effort every start.
3 Techfluence High (The Sidley Stud)
BC Juvenile Fillies winner tried dirt in one of her starts this year but switched back to turf and finished second in the Grade 2 Appalachian last out. Not as fond of SA as some others, but she should be competitive here and a win wouldn’t be a surprise.
4 Stick Low (Arindel)
Just a maiden win for this one. She’s been knocking on the door on dirt and turf though, with a second in the LA Jewel in LA-bred company last year. Doesn’t seem to be able to graduate to stakes level. Seems a bit outclassed.
5 One Night (Smokey Stover)
Never worse than second in five starts, but she is making her stakes debut here. Distance shouldn’t be a problem for this girl as she has won going beyond a mile. Remains to be seen if she can make that big step up in class.
6 Carmen Lucia (TwinTowersRacing)
Her most recent starts have been on dirt, but she has performed on turf as well, with a second place MSW performance at a mile on turf. Distance isn’t the question. Class is.
7 Raw And Real (Mb Stables)
Fifth in the Appalachian last out. Before that she won the Grade 3 Herecomesthebride wire to wire. That’s the way she seems to like it – jump out to a lead and stay there. She just might get it done here.
8 Andie Walsh (First Flight Stable)
Fourth in the Appalachian last start. Broke her maiden in NY-bred company. Her only other win was an allowance in NY-bred company. Likes to come from off the pace, so she’ll need a good trip.
9 Sinister City (The Freakshow)
Wow! This filly has put together a five-race winning streak that includes the FL Oaks (Grade 3) and the Grade 2 Appalachian. Is she unstoppable? She’s already beaten most of these. She looks to be coming into this race in good form. Looks like the one to beat.
10 Spice Run (Alydar Stables)
Second in the FL Oaks, third in the Appalachian. She has as good a chance as any in this field to end Sinister City’s win streak. Could have a say in the outcome.
11 Lucky Star (Calia Stable)
Making her turf debut here. Works say she’s good for it, but it is definitely a question mark for this filly. She’s got the class and can get the distance. But again, surface is a question mark.
