Can The Redheads Be Defeated in The My Dear?

The FL Sire Stakes- My Dear ($400.000 Purse)
GP- For Fillies Two Years Old Foaled In FL
One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Dirt
September 28, 2019

The FL Sire Series always provides great opportunities for horses to win some of the more generous statebred purses that you will see. Breeding in Florida may not be as high as some of the other states, but there is always a fair share of great talent that comes from the Sunshine State every year so it can be a little surprising that we don’t see the biggest of fields here. In the My Dear, we will look at some of the more promising Floridian fillies. Last year, the race was won by Elegant and Mb Stables, and she would be able to run in the BC Juvenile Fillies, and ran second. As a three year old, she has continued to be productive, and had a win in the CCA Oaks at SAR in July. Our field of five will hope for similar, if not better success in their future. Let’s meet them!

#1- Zealous Kruz (Estero Farms, ridden by T McCarthy)- One of two in the field that have already tried the FL Sire Series, and for Zealous Kruz, it was a midpack finish in the Susan. She has potential, for sure, but so far in her career, she has not really fulfilled that potential after breaking her maiden as her two races after that are okay, though uninspiring. Perhaps she will take a liking to the smaller field, but I’ll pass for now.

#2- Ragin Redhead (Mb Stables, ridden by P Lopez)- Broke her maiden in her last start, her third, which came right here at GP last month. In that race, she went right to the lead, opened up quite a bit, and held on at the end in a mile long event. Prior to that, she made two late bids in sprints that came up short, so I am thinking that she will go back to that tactic instead of trying to duplicate how she broke her maiden.

#3- Save To Maps (Aml Racing, ridden by A A Gallardo)- The first thing one notices about this filly is her outstanding pedigree, being by Decima, and out of Google Maps. Unfortunately for the trainer, she was unable to be directed to the finish line efficiently in her last start, finishing next to last at an allowance at SAR. For her to come here after that race, it’s pretty clear that the trainer considers that a complete throw out, so I’ll try to the same. Her works are either great or flat, depending on which ones you look at. Perhaps that is the type of racehorse she will become as well.

#4- Made In America (Jive Inc, ridden by C J Lanerie)- She has raced against Zealous Kruz in each of her last two races, and defeated her in each of them. The more noteworthy performance was the Susan, part of the FL Sire series, where Made In America passed her, and others in the stretch, and finished third, defeating Zealous Kruz by two lengths. I believe that Made In America will like the longer distance better as well. While I must say there is not a horse in this field that really stands out at me as the one to beat, I do feel the Made In America is probably the safest pick here.

#5- Red Headed Lady (Mb Stables, ridden by F Prat)- This filly tried the grass last time out and did pretty well, finishing second at the $100.000 Sorority Stakes at the beginning of the month. That is a mile long race, and she had no issue at all with the distance. Looking at her work times, she seems as though she would be better on the main track, so I am expecting to see a great effort from her in this race.

Prediction: 4-5-2-3
