Surprise Authority had run long several times in his past, and he had done well when doing so. The last time that he had won a race, May 2022, was also the last time that he went at least a mile. Since then, he’s been sprinting and also performing well, but the gelding did not win any of those races.

The field for the Grade 2 Mother Goose seemed to be a balanced one, and that would end showing on the odds board. It would also be apparent at the finish line, as three of them hit the line together, and you had to wonder if the stewards were going to a declare a dead heat between two of them, if not all three.

After 18 years of being run at BEL, The Mother Goose is the next race to move from that track to the Big A, as the virtual renovations take place at BEL. This race is a former Grade 1, holding that status from 2005 until 2016, when it received the downgrade to a Grade 2.
Differing Paths Meet at The Forty Niner Handicap
Formerly known as the Kelso Handicap, a field of eleven comes together on Saturday to contest the 20th running of the rebranded Forty Niner Handicap at AQU. It’ll be the second time that race is run here, having been at BEL through 2021 until moving to the Big A in 2022.
