Champion In Action Earns First Graded Win in Skip Away

Four year old bay gelding took what he had learned in his SSM Classic victory, and repeated that effort here on Friday while earning a 102 speed figure.

  • The Skip Away- Grade III Stakes
  • Gulfstream Park, Mile and Three Sixteenth Dirt
  • $100.000 Purse, for Four Years Old and Upward

In just his second start of the season, Champion In Action ( Night Rider Stables ) would be made the two to one favorite at post time, and would sit some four back until the turn for home to make his move to the front.

Setting time fractions of 47.83, 1:11.57, and 1:35.81, A Storm Has Arrived ( Maxmillion Farm ) was in complete control of this event right up until the final five hundred feet from home, when Champion In Action took the lead. He would run on to stop the clock in 1:54.28. The victory was his first Graded title of his career, and his third stakes victory.

Hanging on to take the runner-up position, A Storm Has Arrived showed all the talent of a winner throughout this event. Holding off another late closer to the wire, watch for this one to return to this level once again.

Stalking the early front runner throughout this event, Air Show ( Mb Stables ) was ready to make his move coming off the turn for home, but was unable to find the kick needed to stay with the eventual winner.

After trailing in this event for the opening mile, filly Jinx Queen ( Gdp Inc ) would start her charge down the lane, but it was a bit to late as she would only grab a minor share finishing fourth. I had higher hopes for her in this one, but watch for a strong effort in her next asking.

Staying consistently throughout just three lengths out, Performance Artist ( Serenity Stables ) is still looking to break through this season. Looking at previous events, possible a run at a mile in the Gr.III TX Mile against three and up will pay dividends.

Sixth place went to Special Project ( D J C Racing Stables ) who was attempting his first Stakes try after being in protective Alw company, and may try a minor stakes race next. Seventh was Johannes ( Eastern Equine ) who was attempting his second Grade III event, and has only missed the top three in Graded company in his career. Needs time to develop. Eighth was Kryptonite ( TwinTowersRacing ) who has crashed in all four of his past Graded tries, and a refocus should be in the cards till he tries this level in the future.
