Champion In Action Upsets The PRM Cornhusker Handicap

7/2/21

2   PRM     The PRM Cornhusker Hcp (GIII)

$300.000          3yo&Up            1 1/8m   Dirt               Hcp Weights

The late scratch of Twilight Flame certainly changed the complexion of Friday’s PRM Cornhusker Hcp (GIII) and Night Rider Stables’ Champion In Action, sent off as the second longest odds in the field, stalked the pace, pounced with the money on the line and brought home the lion’s share with a length victory.  The final time was 1:47.27 for the mile and an eighth stakes.  Trooper chased the pace, had the lead in the lane but couldn’t hold off the eventual winner, taking the second spot by a half length over post time favorite and fast closing Antonym.  Mo Town grab the minor share in this one.

Champion In Action is a 6yo bay gelding by Natural Drummer – Angies Taco Truck by Meals On Wheels, and she was bred by her owner, Night Rider Stables in FLA.  He now has nine wins from forty starts and earnings of $1,301.000.  This was his second win of the season, both graded races, so this ol’ boy and done yet…  Congrats to the connections.

Champion In Action rated back while never far from the lead, steady push forward, took over mid-lane, won driving.  Trooper stalked early, up to take over in the lane, could not contain foe, settled.  Antonym rated back, best foot too late.  Mo Town broke alertly, set the pace to the lane, headed, tired.  That Funky Money showed some early interest, tired.  Terror Of His Time was not a factor.
