Chandelier Stakes – Grade I [BC]
1 1/16 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $300.000 Filly 2 Year Olds.
1st Beat To The Punch, trained by Mb Stables
The rabbit was sent but had company in the shape of Commanding Rose setting up such a crazy early pace that the first 2 furlongs was covered a second quicker than the seven furlong grade one DMR Debutante and a similar time to the Sorrento Stakes over six and a half furlongs. With such a silly early pace it was always going to come down to a closer and Beat To The Punch sat well of the pace but in a good position to pick them up when the lungs started to burn. As it turned out she sauntered home by three lengths and would’ve won with or without a rabbit, she will move forward to the BC now no doubt one of three Mb entries.
2nd Mexican, trained by Team 7 Illusions
The two rabbits were sent by the stables that finished first and second but whilst the winner held a good position ready to pounce this one got a little further back and had to negotiate traffic. As it ended up she would never have beaten the winner and for the fourth time in a row had to watch her tail as they crossed the line.
3rd Gift Of Laughter, trained by TwinTowersRacing
Kept on in third but couldnt match the finish of the first two. A good effort by the filly that only broke her maiden this month and i am sure there will be a decent prize for her one day.
4th Fascinating Gyal, trained by Night Rider Stables
Flew from the back to be fourth but never got in a serious blow.
SUMMARY
There was more rabbits than horses in this race which turned out as expected but was just a bit silly to watch.
