At odds of 22/1, Charity Jane was the longest shot on the board for the Garland of Roses Handicap. Like others in the field, the filly was moving from the turf to the main track, but those in the stands still would not think as highly of her. After six furlongs, and with an impressive come from behind effort, Charity Jane would prove her skeptics wrong. It will be interesting to see where she ends up after this, since the result certainly showed that she likes running on the dirt quite a bit. That decision will be up to trainer RNP Stables, who wins the race for the first time. Aboard the winner was K Carmouche, his second win, with the previous victory occurring in 2017 with Chief of Deez. Congratulations to the winners! The race was run in a time of 1:09.29, the second quickest in the history of the race. That 2017 race was the fastest. Let’s take a look!

(¼ Mile- :22.20)- Quick out of the gate, 4% jockey T B Alpander has Cp Great Moon Queen running and opening up a two length advantage for Greyfriars Stable. After that gap of two lengths, they are three wide behind her with Axeman’s Heroic Chai having a head in front of the two to her inside. Those would be Fill The Void, from Mb Stables, on the rail, and McLovin Returns, from Maxmillion Farm in the middle. Run Fitchew (Night Rider Stables) is a length behind them while running in the fourth lane, and Surfing Sox (Paradise Stable) is sixth while running closer to the rail. Our eventual winner, RNP Stables’ Charity Jane runs towards the outside while being five lengths back. Three more to Astern (Rock Creek) who wanted absolutely no part of the early pace.

(Top Of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- While rounding the long turn here at AQU, Cp Great Moon Queen tried to hold onto her lead, and was still there, for now. However, that gap she had on everyone else was gone. Heroic Chai steadily made up ground in the turn, and was poised to go on by soon into the stretch. She was not the only one about to do this, as Run Fitchew, along the outside was also to the outside. There was also room for Fill The Void and McLovin Returns to come on through, as they were about a length back. While that was going on, we began to see Charity Jane make up a lot of ground, especially closer to the exit of the turn. She was still fifth, and had two lengths to make up. Surfing Sox was to her outside, while Astern was still content to spot everyone three lengths.

(Finish- 1:09.29)- The field made quick work of Cp Great Moon Queen, and now it was time to see which of them was going to come out on top. Early in the stretch, Run Fitchew was looking good, moving to the lead, by Heroic Chai. However, Charity Jane was in an all out drive to the lead while in the money lane, and she would blow by all but Run Fitchew. That one put up a fight, but Charity Jane was not going to be denied and wins by a neck. Run Fitchew is a clear second, by a length and a half over Astern, who decided to start racing in the stretch. Fill The Void takes fourth, over Heroic Chai, Surfing Sox, McLovin Returns, and Cp Great Moon Queen.

About The Winner- Charity Jane, trained by RNP Stables and ridden to victory by K Carmouche, is a three year old filly by Take Dead Aim, and is out of Dial For Charity. She was bred in Florida by Nakamura Stables as a third quarter two year old, and acquired by RNP Stables via a $10.000 claim in February 2020. The win is her fourth in 10 starts, and it is her first stake win. Her career earnings are now $166.910.
