Cheveley Park Takes To The Dirt Well In LCD Juvenile Win

LCD Juvenile ($100.000 Purse)
FG- For Two Year Olds Foaled in LA
Six Furlongs on the Dirt
December 11, 2021

The LCD Juvenile saw a filly trying to take on the boys, and she would end up as the post time favorite. However, it would be the one starting next to her in the gate that would steal the show.  Cheveley Park, running on the main track for the first time in his career would have a good trip throughout and would make the winning pass late in the stretch to earn the victory! Cheveley Park is a colt saddled by Mo Mentum Farm, who gets his first win in this stake, and the same holds true for his jockey, R Santana Jr. Congratulations to them! The time of the race goes down as 1:09.19, beating the old stake record by three tenths of a second! Let’s take a look!

(¼ Mile- :22.82)- Jumping out to the lead, it is our post time favorite, Asgar’s filly, Profound Authority, and she opens up a cushion of a length and a half. Her closest competitor is John Henry’s Cherokee Reaper, who runs in the second lane, half a length ahead of our eventual winner, Mo Mentum Farm’s Cheveley Park. Behind them by a length, it’s Ol Grange Hall (T Boy Racing), and Riordan (Nynl Stables) is on her outside. It’s a few more lengths back to the trailer, Commander Farley (Threshold).

(½ Mile- :45.57, Top of Stretch, 2F To Go)- Profound Authority is looking really good out front, looking comfortable in the way she handles the turn, and as she moved into the stretch, her lead is about two lengths. Cheveley Park moves into second, but has not really begun her push to the front just yet. Cherokee Reaper is doing a good job keeping pace with her in the third position. If Ol Grange Hall had something for the stretch, it was time to show it. Riordan was looking a bit outmatched, and Commander Farley still had a lot of ground to make up.

(Finish- 1:09.19)- Early in the stretch, we began to see Cheveley Park start to eat away at the advantage of Profound Authority, but it still seemed as though the filly would be able to hold on. With a furlong to go, and closing in on the wire, she was trying to dig in, but that would not be enough. Cheveley Park simply had more energy in each stride as they got closer to the finish, and in the end, she would pick up the victory by half a length! Cherokee Reaper is third, but was two lengths behind them and never threatened for more. Commander Farley did her running late, and gets the fourth place spoils, topping Ol Grange Hall and Riordan.

About The Winner- Cheveley Park, trained by Mo Mentum Farm and ridden to victory by R Santana Jr is a two year old colt by Storming and is out of Creation Stories. He was bred in Louisiana as a second quarter by Team 7 Illusions and acquired by Mo Mentum Farm in the June auction, unraced, for $25.010. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his second in three starts, and first stake win. His career earnings are now $73.200.
