DED- For Fillies Two Years Old
One Mile on the Dirt

This Friday at DED, we will have the third running of the My Trusty Cat, which is for two year old fillies on the main track. This race first appeared on the schedule in 2014, but would not be run a second time until last year. In 2021, the distance of the race has been changed to a mile, as it had been a seven furlong race in the previous two editions. Last year’s race was won by Luck Be A Lady, for Serenity Stables, and it would be the last time she won a race. The filly is still active, and if anyone is so inclined, she is available for $90.000 in private sales right now. The 2014 winner, French Liege, also did not win another race after taking this one. So, hopefully this race is not cursed or anything. We have seven going to post, and none of them have topped $100.000 in earnings yet. Here they are!

#1- Chopstick (Aer Stables, ridden by T Thornton)- In four starts, Chopstick has managed one win but has started off her career well, generally speaking. Ran second in the $150.000 Astoria (to Keno Queen), and after a few months off, was third in the Pocahontas. Being a non-factor in the Alcibiades slowed her progress, but she is in a great spot here to rebound and get back on track going forward. Excellent mile works, but possibly might need to be a little closer to the front then she has been early on. The trainer will make the right call, and I think she is the top choice in here.

#2- Bye Bye Felice (D J C Racing Stables, ridden by G Melancon)- Won her second career start, running four and a half furlongs at the CT bullring, and followed that up well by winning an allowance at LAD. Working as good as everyone else in this field at six furlongs, and while there are now public mile works, I sense that they are very good at the farm.

#3- Believe In Miracles (TwinTowersRacing, ridden by J P Vargas)- The filly has gotten her taste of graded stake racing, running in both the Spinaway and the Miss Grillo but not hitting the board in either. As of now, has just her maiden win to speak of, though it would not take a miracle for her to win.

#4- Barbara Eden (Mental Bloch Racing, ridden by R Eikleberry)- This maiden has been close to winning a couple times over her four race career, so you could see her being competitive in a field like this. Mile work on November 6th was certainly not a poor one, but almost a full second slower than Chopstick’s works.

#5- Cosmo Belle (Fractious, ridden by D Saenz)- Just a few bucks shy of cracking $100.000 in earnings, so in that regard, there is no one better and we can expect her to be one of the top choices in this race. In her five starts, she has won twice, including her most recent start which was an allowance at KEE. Like Chopstick, she had a race (the Spinaway) which may have slowed her progress, but she has the ability to put that completely behind her.

#6- Tell The Queen (Nakamura Stables, ridden by A E Birzer)- So far in her career, Tell The Queen has always finished a race with a trip to the winner’s cycle, going 2-for-2. Won on debut, though at the free track and followed that up with a five length victory, coming at FP. Each of those wins were in the slop, too. Works are strong, though she has never faced a field of this quality.

#7- Falling Homily (D J C Racing Stables, ridden by Jo Dominguez)- After running third on debut in July, prior trainer Smokey Stover put Falling Homily into a $50.000 maiden claimer at DMR, and she was very impressive, winning the CA-bred race by five lengths. However, she would not return to that barn as D J C Racing Stables was on top of things, claiming her for that amount. He ran her last month in the Grade 2 Chandelier, and she gained ground late to be fourth. Will be one of the top choices here.
