It’s a big weekend for 2yo fillies and it’s a big race with a big field here as the gate will be full for the 2020 Starlet (GI), going a mile and a sixteenth at LA.  Is anyone picking against Feral Impact in this one?  Certainly not me… not off of that game win in the BC Juv F (GI), that’ for sure.  She has my full attention and should have everyone’s.  I’ll take Shes A Super Freak in the second spot, fourth only beaten two lengths on BC Day.  She was closing late and a bit less traffic could make her a bigger threat.  Uplifiting is another out of the BC Day race, as she closed quickly to be third at long odds, and I’m doubting that you get those here today.  It’s a very talented group and you know how I feel about the BC curse… did I doom myself?

Here’s The Field –

1
   Secret Eyes    Fractious    Cedillo A   120   5/1

Two stakes wins in her six start career and was ninth in the BC Juv F (GI), closing a bit of ground late in that one.  I think the traffic got her more than the competition and this could be a place for her to get back on the winning side of things.  Her best certainly indicates that.

2
American Phoerest    Royalty Stables    Gaffalione T   120   8/1

Broke maiden and then ran third vs. stakes company at CD where she was right there throughout but just didn’t have that extra something to get it done.  Still she’s got room for improvement and a bit more of that could make her a factor today.

3
   Shes A Super Freak    YME Stable    Hernandez J J   120   7/2

I really like this filly, she’s been on my radar for a while and ran a big race in both the Miss Grillo (GII) and the BC Juv F Tuf (GI) where she was second and fourth.  That was only her fifth start on BC Day and obviously she can keep getting better.  I will continue to be on her band-wagon for a while.

4
   Average Luck    Arindel    Hernandez R M   120   10/1

Has been solid while facing PA-bred in her six-start career, so this is an obvious step up.  She shows tactical speed and a want to be in the hunt, but the distance and the step up in class put her in a tough spot, in my eye.

5
Feral Impact    Mb Stables    Davis D   120   6/5

The big barn brings her to this one fresh off of a win in the BC Juv F (GI) where she flew home to get the win by a nose.  We all know she has the class, has the ability… winning three of five starts along with a second vs. graded horses, so there’s not much to explain here.  She’s real good… does the BC curse come into play?  I think not.

6
   Uplifting    John Henry    Beschizza A   120   7/2

Third in the BC Juv F (GI) at very long odds, and she sold after that race.  Her only win was vs. Cal-bred MSW but she has been close in a couple other graded races, and this barn certainly knows how to get to the winner’s circle.  You have to put her in the middle of this one.

7
   Foregone Conclusion    D J C Racing Stables    Bejarano R   120   5/1

Another that has been in my eye for a while and was fourth in the BC Juv F (GI) after setting/pressing the pace in that one.  A fourth in that race is certainly nothing to turn your nose up at, and she should be a serious threat here today as well.

8
Sass    Arindel    Fuentes Ru   120   9/1

Broke maiden at first asking and has been close in a couple of other races, but this is a big step up in class and going a longer distance that she’s been trying.  She will need to load both barrels to get involved here.

9
Glamorous Life    Nakamura Stables    Ryan S   120   6/1

She’s never been off of the board in four starts and was third in the Chandelier Stakes (GII) at SA last out.  She also won a Cal-bred stakes along with her maiden score, so she is a horse that has the ability to continue to develop and I will be putting her in the trifecta.

10
   Naples    Fractious    Velazquez J R   120   6/1

Her perfect string came to an end when seventh in the BC Juv F (GI) but she was coming after them late in that… traffic and just ran out of race track.  She sold after that for the tidy sum of $1,200.000, and you know the new connections want to start getting her picture taken.  She can run.

11
Pure Lizzie    Nakamura Stables    Franco G   120   7/1

Lightly raced but this filly should be turning heads as she is just a neck shy of being perfect after three starts.  Broke maiden at first asking, the took an Alw race by two at PEN… easy to dismiss, but she was only beaten a neck in the Tempted at AQU in her most recent… and she has room to improve today.

12
Storm The Court    John Henry    Espinoza V   120   9/1

Got the job done at SA last out taking down Cal-bred MSW types by a nose.  She now steps up in class, distance and catches the far outside post.  She will need her best, but seems to always be in the hunt.
