Class Prevails in Irish Stakes

Irish Stakes
6 1/2 Furlongs Turf Stake Purse $100.000 Filly & Mare 4 Year Olds And Up Foaled In CA.

1st Point Of Honor High Voltage Van Dyke D

This was always going to be a tight race but, in the end, it was class that told as this six-year-old dug deep to repel challengers. On speed she was ridden like the best horse going with the fast early pace that saw a 43 and 4 half mile. That sort of early speed usually sets it up for the closers, but this downhill track is very hard to close on and she was pulling away again at the end. Good to see her back in form.

2nd Fun Dip Jokerjoes Rodriguez J E

Never far off the pace but back past midfield early as expected she finished really strongly to get up for second. The winner was just too classy today but this versatile four-year-old is improving with each run and a good win isn’t far off.

3rd Tales From La Our Athletes Dettori L

Did well to go with the winner but, in the end, was out battled in the run to the line. This was a strong pace to stalk so she did well to keep going for third.

4th Foehammer Avenue Z Smith M E

There are two options the race engine chooses when drawn wide, forward or back. When she went back and I saw the fractions, I thought she may be a danger and though she made up a ton of ground it is not easy to close on this track or this race engine and she ended up fourth. A solid effort though.
