The Gallorette Stakes 1 1/16 Turf Grade 3

Purse $150.00 For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward

Antares from Alydar Stables needed to draw on all of her back class and she did so in dramatic style to gamely take down all comers through the stretch drive to win the Gallorette Stakes in front of a monster crowd for Preakness 151. Congrats to the winning connections on yet another monster win by this remarkable race mare. Reorganize from Czech Out Farms had to run in spots today between calls and battled tooth and nail in a gutsy performance of her own by coming back on after she dropped back to fourth and nailed down second place. Big effort noted. Ginger Gem from The Sidley Stud surely did not read the form this morning as she ran much better than most who did read it would have dreamed. The three-year-old ran the best race of her career and looks to have found a new gear. Fairy Godmother from Greyhound ran a good effort, just could not make up ground the way she tried to given the effort put in by the gals in front of her.

Of The Rest:

Lucy Heat, also from The Sidley Stud shot out of her outside post and the fact she didn’t stop to a walk and run last is a positive sign. She obviously has some ability. It will be interesting to see how she fares with a cozy draw and a slightly more realistic spot.

My Princess Em from Bigchief Stables has been struggling to bring home dividends since a good run back in October. The six-year-old mare might be in line for a freshening or a significant drop in class.

Run For Fun from Maxmillion Farm was absent from action under silks since late December and certainly looked like a horse trying to shake off the rust. With four horses battling for second place in front of her, the pilot must have thought he had her in perfect position. Unfortunately, she gave little to no gear change when that button was eventually pushed. She took a decent amount of action on the tote today, so I am expecting her to show up somewhere easier, probably going one turn and looking markedly improved.
