Classic Princess has enjoyed her summer in Ontario, thank you very much. She may have missed-out on the bob in the G2 Dance Smartly, but she came back to win the G2 Canadian by a half length before taking Sunday’s G1 Taylor Stakes. The $600.000 mile-and-a -quarter turf event for 3yo+ fillies and mares had several entrants that could/will make their next start in the G1 BC Filly and Mare Turf, but it was Classic Princess hitting the wire in 1:58.79 to vault into 4th place on that leaderboard.
Forbidden Blush was sent to the front from the start and she would enjoy that view for a while. Classic Princess and Build Battle tracked her from two lengths back with Starshipdotcom, a solo fourth, two more lengths back. Through an opening half-mile in :47.53, the only change was Intanga Rose making an early move from the rear to take fourth from Starshipdotcom as the rest of the field appeared content with the way things were going.
As they reached the turn, Classic Princess shifted off the rail and pushed Build Battle out a path or two, but she quickly went back to the rail and bided her time. Forbidden Blush reached three-quarters in 1:10.99 maintaining her two length advantage over Classic Princess, but D. Davis appeared to be waiting for the right moment to launch his rally.
That moment came just as the leader reacjed the top of the long WO stretch. When Classic Princess went to engage her, Forbidden Blush welcomed the challenge and still maintained a three-quarters of a length lead after the mile went in 1:34.60. Behind the top two, only Pink Kitten and Shes One Of A Kind were making a substantial move, but they were both still well behind. Classic Princess put her nose in front just inside the furlong pole and gradually increased her advantage through deep stretch before finishing the 10-furlongs in 1:58.79. Forbidden Blush ran hard throughout and finished a length behind the winner a length in front of Pink Kitten and Shes One Of A Kind with the latter pair in a photo for third. The winner’s stablemate had to settle for fourth and was followed across the line by Starshipdotcom, Rose Petals, Build Battle, Wheres The Beef, and Intanga Rose.
Classic Princess (Captain Rush o/o Intervention) improved her career record to 20-8-5-1 and now has earnings of $768.810. She will head to DMR as “one of the ones” for next month’s BC. Forbidden Blush settled for the place honors and ends the BC prep season in 2nd position on the F&M Turf leaderboard. Pink Kitten ran on for the show honors, but she will most likely be a spectator for next month’s championships.
Congratulations to Maxmillion Farm and Classic Princess for their victory in the $600.000 G1 Taylor Stakes at WO.
