Rising King Wins Nearctic Stakes In Last Jump

10/17/21

  5   WO      Nearctic Stakes (GII)

$250.000   3yo&Up    6f  Turf   3yo 120lbs   Older 123lbs

I should just stop handicapping and let the Green Card take care of things…  Rising King seemed somewhat uninterested in the early stages of Sunday’s Nearctic Stakes (GII) on the firm WO turf course. When the money was on the line, the bay colt found a path when there just didn’t seem to be one, flew past the remainder of the field and led when it counted…on the wire, taking the win by a head in a final time of 1:07.98 for the six furlongs.  Trumbull Valley tracked the pace to the furlong marker, took the lead to deep stretch and I really don’t think he even saw what was coming… which was the Maxmillion Farm trained colt flying down the outside.  Shakespearean gave Mb Stables the second and third spots with Bajan Mask taking the minor money.  Only three lengths covered the entire field in this one.

Rising King is a 4yo bay colt by Prudent Commander – Bailisk, by Charley Farley, and he was bred in NY by Twin TowersRacing.  Acquired prior to his racing career by Maxmillion Farm for $20.000, this was his sixth win from fourteen starts, has won half of his six seasonal starts and he has lifetime earnings of $471.960.  Congrats to the connections.

Rising King unhurried to the top of the lane, fanned out 7p for the drive, altered course to go wider looking for racing room, closed determinedly, got up in the final strides, won driving.  Trumbull Valley tracked the pace to just outside of the furlong marker, took over, led to deep stretch, nailed late.  Shakespearean tracked the pace 3p, swung out for the drive, no excuse.  Bajan Mask broke alertly, crossed over to gain an inside position, set the pace to the furlong marker, tired.  Broadway Bay tracked the pace inside, drifted out down the lane, out-finished.  Washington Tactics gave an even effort.  Lannys All In had no excuse.  The Gray Dehere rated, some late interest while no factor.  Wingman wide trip, tired.  Leas Chance was outrun.  Puako wide trip, no factor.  Doom saved ground to no avail.
