MTH Race #4 $150.000 11/8 Turf

3YO  119 Lbs 4+ 124 Lbs (+penalties)

Track Record-1:44.88 (Danzing Lil Pirate-2016)

Stakes Record-1:45.67 (Rock Warrior-2015)

Maybe it wasn’t as “easy” as trainer Maxmillion Farm had hoped, but his 4yo filly Classic Princess got the job done in the $150.000 G3 Matchmaker at MTH on Saturday.

From the start, Giveaway looked to take control of the pace and the race as she established a clear lead over a second flight pair of Party In The Brig and Chili One.  The eventual winner settled two lengths off of that pair and it was another two lengths back to the trailing Pink Ribbons.  Through fractions of :23.87, :46.74, and 1:10.11 the running order remained unchanged with only two lengths separating Giveaway from the stalking duo and another length back to Classic PrincessPink Ribbons was at least four lengths off of that one and looked disinterested.

The race really started at the 1/8 pole after Giveaway completed the mile in 1:34 flat.  Classic Princess had moved to at least the three path as she got the jump on Party In The Brig and Chili One to her inside as that trio set their sights on Giveaway, but, at the same time, Pink Ribbons appeared to have dropped out of the clouds to find an opening on the rail and was putting in a challenge of her own.  The final 200-yards, the fillies and mares gave their all as they were lined-up five across.  At the wire, the field of five was separated by a total of a little more than a length.  Classic Princess, under A. Cedillo, hit the wire first in 1:46.06 to score by 1/2 length over Chili One; that runner nosed-out Pink Ribbons who was just a head in front of Party In The Brig.  Longtime leader Giveaway was just a short head behind that one.

When asked for his thoughts on his Captain Rush filly’s performance, an over-joyed Maxmillion Farm replied, “She got it done….. thought she might win a bit easier…. And I thought she might run a tick or two faster…. So I’m happy but cautiously optimistic.”  The 1.45-1 favorite improved her career record to 17-6-4-1 for career earnings of $223.810 while also securing four points for the BC F&M TurfChili One earned two points with her 2nd-place finish and Pink Ribbons earned the one point awarded for show run.  Congratulations to Maxmillion Farm and Classic Princess for their victory in the $150.000 G3 Matchmaker at MTH on Saturday!

  1. Pink Ribbons LOL, i will name her foal that………

  2. I am beyond sorry. I typed Pink Ribbons for the Threshold runner Pink Kitten throughout the article. Pink Ribbons is a retired mare in my own stable. I apologize for the mistake and will try to refrain from inserting my horses into races they aren’t running in. Well done to the real 3rd placed finisher in the race, Pink Kitten!
