9 GP CC Canterbury
$110.000 5f Turf 3yo&Up 3yo 120lbs Older 123lbs + penalties
Class is a hot topic around these parts, but there was no denying Cold
Weather Rider and the road that led him to his victory in the
CC Canterbury. Ninth, but only beaten a length in
the BC Turf Sprint, the Night Rider Stables’ trained gelding tracked the
early pace and accelerated by them to take his first ’19 win by
three-quarters of a length in a rapid final time of :56.4 for the five
panels. Just A Reserve showed a late burst to get the second spot,
nosing out Mean Billie Jean in third.
There was a full field of fourteen loaded for this one and as the gates
sprung open these speedsters were ready to get after it, Rapido Caballo
and Starling from the outside were away quickly, Bally Longer, Cold
Weather Rider and Mean Billie Jean in a line, drop over to the rail for
Magnolia Creek, Captains Mood from the outside then back to the rail for
Just A Reserve, Sheikhzayedroad, Roll Along and Peppermint Tune in that
first group. A length back to Creepy Big Ears, Well Dressed on that
one’s flank and Fort Myers was the early trailer.
Moving through the turn and two furlongs left to run, Cold Weather Rider
up to take the lead, Starling caught widest of all giving check, Rapido
Caballo next to that one, Mean Billie Jean, then a gap of a length and a
half to Magnolia Creek, Bally Longer, Just A Reserve between that pair,
Captains Mood out wide and Sheikhzayedroad skimming the rail.
Another length back to Roll Along, Peppermint Tune a length off of that
one, Creepy Big Ears trying to save ground, Well Dressed a length and a
half behind that one and Fort Myers could still see them all.
Into the lane and past the furlong marker, Cold Weather Rider continuing
to show the way by a length and a half, Mean Billie Jean down the center,
Just A Reserve next to that one then Starling out wide. Magnolia
Creek and Sheikhzayedroad using ground saving moves, Rapido Caballo out
wide, Roll Along asked for more and Captains Mood out wide… the rest had
a lot of work to do as the run to the wire was on.
Deep stretch and to the finish, Cold Weather Rider was full of run and
went under the wire in front by nearly a length. Just A Reserve
nosed out Mean Billie Jean for the second spot then a length back to
Sheikhzayedroad in fourth. Fort Myers closed well to be fifth,
Magnolia Creek a head back in sixth, Roll Along, Peppermint Tune eighth,
Creepy Big Ears, Captains Mood tenth, Starling tiring to be eleventh,
Rapido Caballo, Bally Longer thirteenth and Well Dressed closed this one
out.
Cold Weather Rider is a a 5yo gelded son of Arian –

Rider.
