Comic Gold Going for Six in a Row

The Triple Bend Stakes – GII
5/23/20
SA Race 3 7F – Dirt
Purse $200.000
Four Year Olds and Up

A field of twelve sprinters has been entered up to take a shot at winning this years running of the grade two Triple Bend over at Santa Anita. It is full field with some nice runners so let’s take a look at the field.

1. Ideal Stud (10-1-1-1 $25.280), trained by Maze Stables

Wasted money with this entry here as he stands absolutely zero chance with this field. The works are terrible his form is not very good either and I’d be surprised if he was to even beat a horse.

2. Apples To Oranges (14-3-2-2 $2170.840), trained by Mb Stables

Surprised to see this horse entered here as he was second in the Belmont Stakes last year and has almost always ran at or around the classic distances. Maybe the cut back will return him to his old form though.

3. Cardinal Direction (20-4-1-3 $572.320), trained by D J C Racing Stables

I think this horse is finally going to be getting back to his best distance here as his biggest win was at seven furlongs. He has been running well but not winning. I think this is his best distance and he should have a good shot.

4. Light At The End (32-5-6-7 $152.810), trained by TwinTowers Racing

Another one that I do not see standing much of a chance as his last race was a losing effort against thirty two dollar claimers. I just do not see him winning unless some crazy happens in this race.

5. Comic Gold (13-8-1-2 $318.450), trained by Mb Stables

Best in form in the race was he is entering this one off of a five race win streak including the Kona Stakes last out. If he bring his best I think that he should be able to keep the streak alive and win another one.

6. Machine Gun Tommy (9-4-1-0 $102.490), trained by Fractious

Next horse up is coming into this race off of a big allowance optional claiming win over this same track. He has tried to big stakes before with no success so I’m not sure if he is able to handle to stiff competition.

7. Einstein (22-3-7-0 $138.020), trained by Winning Link Stables

Coming up into this race off of a placing in a minor stakes race in his last start right here and he is testing the deep end of the pool here. I just don’t think he is hoss enough to handle this group unfortunately.

8. A Beagle Named Boo (18-5-7-2 $318.530), trained by John Henry

Another one coming out of the Kona Stakes and he was barely beaten that day running second by a neck. He is a graded staked winner and should be tough in here if he stays true to his recent form.

9. Tallmadge Star (12-5-3-2 $387.500), trained by Oquinn Farm

This runner here may have some of the best recent form because in his last start he was third by a neck in the grade one Carter. If he can repeat those performances he should be vvery tough in this field.

10. Mojave Rattler (20-5-2-3 $2009.360), trained by Mo Mentum Farm

Last years Breeders Cup Mile winner will be making his first start on the dirt in quite a while when he runs in here. He has not been to the winners circle since that day and I’m not sure how he will handle the dirt.

11. Big Tuna (24-7-4-5 $296.750), trained by Alydar Stables

Next up another one that is coming into the race off of a minor stakes win and he has been running well at the ungraded level. He makes a jump here and has a tough post so he will have to run huge to win.

12. Duke Or Earl (36-10-7-5 $615.340), trained by Gdp Inc

Last but not least and this is another horse that is coming out of the Triple Bend and he was third beaten a neck that day. Be ran well in there but has a horrible post in this race so he will have a lot of work to do to win.

Summary

A very nice field here with most of the best runners I think drawn towards the outside. There are a bunch of mice runners and my top pick is Comic Gold off of five straight wins. Good luck to all in the field.
