Commanding Holds a Strong Hand in Chandelier Stakes

Chandelier Stakes – Grade I [BC]
1 1/16m   Dirt   Graded Stake
Purse $300.000  For Fillies Two Years Old.

Completely by chance Mb Stables has managed to nab the three inside draws for this race so it would be a simple choice to just try and work out which one of them is the best. Here’s how they line up against the rest.

1 Beat To The Punch, trained by Mb Stables
Won three in a row including the Debutante and the Sorrento Stakes before being beaten a length in the DMR Debutante. She certainly looks like this trip is in her scope and with her third ace draw in a row lady luck is surely shining on her.

2 Some Temper, trained by Mb Stables
Fifth beaten 11 lengths on debut the fact that she worked quicker over a mile than her grade two winning stable mate is just another one of those silly things you have to take into consideration at HRP. A daughter of Commanding and drawn well she could easily break her maiden in this race.

3 Couldnt Tell, trained by Mb Stables
Took a while to break her maiden but did so in style in a turf sprint statebred. She ran on the pace in the Johnson last time but weakened late suggesting to me that she will be used as a pacemaker for this race. For that reason despite the change in surface i doubt she will be in the first three.

4 Fascinating Gyal, trained by Night Rider Stables
Broke her maiden in a big purse statebred maiden winning by a head and then went on to win by the same margin in the generous Portion Stakes at DMR. Though that was over six furlongs she looked like she would stay further in both her races and should give a good account of her self today.

5 Mexican, trained by Team 7 Illusions
Still a maiden but has been pretty soundly beaten by Beat To The Punch in her last three starts and i see no reason why she will turn those tables today. Certainly a place chance over this trip.

6 Gift Of Laughter, trained by TwinTowersRacing
She has improved steadily and broke her maiden last time with an easy win in a mile maiden. A nice sort but i feel she is battling for place money today.

7 Commanding Rose, trained by Team 7 Illusions
A daughter of Commanding she won the Nandi Stakes by a neck before taking on a longer trip in The Musoka Stakes and being soundly beaten into third. She looks a nice enough sort and this trip should suit but i dont think she is quite as good as some of the other offspring of this sire and a place may be best.

8 Ambiguity, trained by Blushing Meadows
Behind Beat To The Punch in both the Sorrento and DMR Debutante she does have the beating of Mexican on that form but i cant see her turning the tables on the Mb Stables horse. Strong works suggest she is a she in for the first three but a wide draw will make it tough for her.

9 Starlite Run, trained by D J C Racing Stables
Ran from a wide draw in the Seeking The Ante last time and took the race engine route A of leading and weakening late to be beaten. She isnt far off of Beat To The Punch on her run in the Debutante so without this car park draw she would be close to winning, the wide draw however is the clincher.

SUMMARY
So the battle may be for third here with Starlite Run, Ambiguity and Mexican having a chance. The likelihood is that Couldnt Tell will be the pace maker which may help the wide draws but regardless of that i would imagine Beat To The Punch and Some Temper will be fighting out the finish.
