Condottieris Fox Gracefully Wins La Prevoyante

La Prevoyante Handicap (Grade 3)- $200.000 Purse
For Fillies and Mares Four Year Olds and Upward
GP- One Mile and One Half on the Inner Turf
January 28, 2017

Plenty of fantastic racing took place on the undercard of the Pegasus World Cup on Saturday.  One of the smaller fields on the afternoon was in the Grade 3 La Prevoyante, an endurance race which tests older females to go twelve furlongs.    The lone five year old in the field was Condottieris Fox, and today this mare would step up and pick up a pretty big win.   In her career, she has consistently been able to be with the leaders even when she was not winning, and it was that consistency that made her an intriguing option and made her our second choice.  The proud winning trainer is Hawaiian Shirt Guy, who wins the race for the first time in his career. J J Castellano was aboard the winner, giving him two wins in three editions of this race.  The time of victory was 2:25.65, making it the third quickest in stake history.  Congratulations to the winners! Let’s look a little more at now!

1st- 3- Condottieris Fox (5/2)- Our eventual winner from Hawaiian Shirt Guy got off to a conservative start from the gate, content to run near the back in the early moments of the race with no concern to the pace being set by Dragonville.  She would trail by about five going around the opening turn.  By the time they hit the front stretch for the first time, J J Castellano seemed to just let her cruise along, but she had a critical four length advantage on Pip Wisdom, which would be important later.  As the field moved into the backstretch for the second time, we saw Castellano begin to look for position around second place Duracell, and midway through until the end of this portion could be the point in which she won the race.  She not only closed on Dragonville but responded with run before Pip Wisdom could close on her.  Midway through the turn, she would take over the lead, and by being able to simply maintain a graceful stride, she was not never really threatened by anyone else in the stretch as she cruised to the victory!  Condottieris Fox is a five year old mare by Condottieri and out of Five Dady Devil (Five Daddy Five).  She was bred in Kentucky by Jediminds Stable, and was acquired by Hawaiian Shirt Guy via a $25.000 claim in April 2015.  Congratulations to the connections!

2nd- 1- Pip Wisdom (9/1)- It was right to the rear of the field for the Chili King Stables entry, giving herself a six length gap to the pacesetting Dragonville, but in closer touch to the rest of the field.  Her gap would be eight at the top of the frontstretch for the first time, but she started to inch herself forward a bit at about the time they hit the wire the first time.  Began moving forward even more about midway through the backstretch, and keeping herself a length and a half behind Condottieris Fox in the process.  Ran well in the turn and in the stretch, but could never overcome the early deficit to the eventual winner.

3rd- 4- Aaract (31/1)- Our pick, from Crocker Ggs, was not given any respect with a 50/1 morning line.  She would start the race in the middle of the back, about a length behind second place Duracell in the backstretch the first time.  While within the opening turn, however, she was considerably restrained, dropping to fourth and over seven lengths back.  She would cruise around for a little while and may have been a little slow to react to the moves of others in the backstretch, but she too starting making progress in the backstretch.  Ran in a similar stride to Pip Wisdom around the turn and in the stretch, and settles for third.

4th- 5- Dragonville (1/1)- The post time favorite from Drabfantasy was the quickest out of the gate and jumped out to a three length lead all to her lonesome as they moved into the first turn.  Continued to set the uncontested pace around the turn and into the frontstretch for the first time, running a half in :49.62, and six furlongs in 1:13.70.  The lead remained three at the top of the backstretch, but rivals began reeling her in well before they reached the final turn.  Tried to fight off Condottieris Fox briefly, but would concede before reaching the exit of the turn.  Had nothing for the stretch.

5th- 2- Duracell (5/2)- The TwinTowersRacing filly got off to a good start, and would be second in the early moments of the race.  She did not have any interest in chasing Dragonville, however.  Remained second around the first turn and into the frontstretch while being content to run her own race.  Her race would be lost in the backstretch the second time, as when others began moving forward, she simply came up flat, and would not even get by Dragonville.
