Court Jester Racing Earns First Graded Win in The Bay Shore

The Bay Shore (Grade 3)- $250.000 Purse
AQU- For Three Year Olds
Seven Furlongs on the Dirt
April 6, 2019

After 2395 races, win number 307 will carry special meaning for trainer Court Jester Racing, as they picked up their first career graded stake victory. The stable first opened its doors during July of 2012, but raced primarily on the free side for a little while. Things continued to improve for them, and this year it is a homebred, Marx On The Moon, who picks up that elusive graded win. Congratulations go out to the trainer, and we wish you the very best going forward. The winning jockey is E Jaramillo, earning his first Bay Shore win. The time of the victory was 1:21.94. Let’s take a look!

(1/4 Mile- :22.93)- Shadowsilver breaks well from the outside post for Fractious, though it would eventually be Golden Boy, out of D J C Racing Stables taking the initial advantage as Shadowsilver retreats back to the third position. Not surprisingly, Socotra Island, from Nynl Stables, is looking good early, and assumes a stalking position of the pacesetter, a little reminiscent of how he won the San Vicente (via dead heat) a couple months ago. After them, you go back a couple lengths to find a three wide group all heads apart, which included our eventual winner, Marx On The Moon, for Court Jester Racing. To his outside are Born A Diplomat, for D J C Racing Stables, and Man Childe, for Our Athletes. Close by to this group is Timber Rattler (Williams 9). Back just a little further are both Que Paso Hermano (Nakamura Stables), the post time favorite Band Of Brothers (Aer Stables), and Restless Quarter (Estero Farms). In the back are Back Up (Mb Stables) and Storming (John Henry).

(½ Mile- :45.98)- Completing the run down the backstretch, Golden Boy continues to be the leader, but Socotra Island has started to reel him a little. The advantage for Golden Boy is now just a head. Shadowsilver is not about to let these two get away, and runs in a three wide position, about a length and a half back. Next we have our eventual top two finishers, Marx On The Moon and Man Childe both running with confidence here, and keeping themselves within three lengths, while keeping ahead of any challengers that could come from behind. Born A Diplomat and Timber Rattler remained a length behind them. Following them, no one else in the field was, as of yet, looking to make a move.

(Top Of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- Socotra Island has taken over the lead at the top of the stretch, making his trainer happy, but the pressure coming from behind was certainly of concern. At this point, I was saying to myself that I knew Marx On The Moon was going to get him. Perhaps, I’ve covered a little too many of these races now to know what’s about to happen. Marx On The Moon was clearly looking very strong when he moved off the rail entering the stretch, and came up right behind Socotra Island. Golden Boy was still fighting, and Shadowsilver, too, was running well. Man Childe swung out for wide to make his move, and had just two and a half lengths to make up; though losing a length to Marx On The Moon in the turn, when they had been even most of the race up to that point would come back to bite him. Further back, Born A Diplomat was holding steady, and Storming was looking to storm on through, finding an inner lane. Timber Rattler had dropped out of it, and we remained waiting to see if any others were going to push forward and make a run.

(Finish- 1:21.94)- Socotra Island showed his good initial kick in the stretch that I have gotten used too, but now was left trying to hold off the challengers. Marx On The Moon was simply too tough. Man Childe did all he could to grab the win late, and Socotra Island was showing tremendous heart in staying right in the mix of this. In the end, it’s hard to be upset with not winning the race when I know another, like Court Jester Racing, just picked up their first career graded win after a couple thousand career starts. I’ve been there. Special congrats go out to them again, and I am glad I was able to have been a part of it on the track as well. Can’t be upset with finishing behind second place Our Athletes, for Man Childe, who is one of the classiest trainers in the game. I guess us three topped the big boys, here. Good late run by Storming to get up for fourth, nipping fifth place Shadowsilver. Born A Diplomat was close by. The rest of the finishing order is Band Of Brothers, Golden Boy, Que Paso Hermano, Restless Quarter, Back Up, and Timber Rattler.

About The Winner- Marx On The Moon, trained by Court Jester Racing, and ridden to victory by E Jaramillo, is a three year colt by Tetra Moon and out of Marxist Ballerina. He was bred in New Jersey by Court Jester Racing as a second quarter two year old, and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his third in seven starts, and is his first stake win. His career earnings are now $182.200.
