Crypto Takes IND Derby

7/9/22

2   IND    The IND Derby  (GIII)

$300.000   3yo    1 1/16m  Dirt       120lbs

The Green Card stays hot handing out the exacta in this one… and Max stays hot as well.  Crypto, making his first start for Maxmillion Farm, stalked the pace throughout Saturday’s IND Derby (GIII) and when the money was on the line, the bay gelding moved away from the field, going under the wire clear by a length, covering the mile and a sixteenth in 1:41 flat and scoring his first graded stakes score.  Rogue Commando was also forwardly placed and had the lead into the lane, but could not hold off the winner, taking the second spot for Mb Stables.  It was two more lengths to Magz in third, and another neck to Electile Dysfunction taking the minor money.  Nine lengths covered the field in this one.

Away from the gate and Chancellor was on the early lead, a trio that included Crypto, Electile Dysfunction and Rogue Commando, giving chase to that one.  Right in behind, another trio tthat included Grayte Lion, Spiced between horses and Magz from the far outside, then another gap to the trailers, Humble And Forgiving, Everymanforhimself and Fire Marshall Bill.

Moving around the clubhouse turn and nearing the run down the back stretch, six furlongs to travel and Chancellor continued to show the way, Rogue Commando pressing the pace from the outside, then a length to Crypto along the rail, Electile Dysfunction on his flank.  Another length and a half to Grayte Lion on the rail, Mags caught three wide and Spiced between that pair.  Everymanforhimself out widest of all, Fire Marshall Bill just to his inside and Humble And Forgiving could see them all.

Now making their way down the backside and nearing the far turn with a half mile left to run, the speed duel continued as now Rogue Commando stuck a head in front.  Chancellor on his inside, then a length to Crypto, just in behind that top pair, Electile Dysfunction on his outside, out wider to Magz, then drop down to the rail for Grayte Lion, Spiced next to that one and three wide to Everymanforhimself.  It was another length to Fire Marshall Bill and Humble And Forgiving continued to be the back marker.

Swing around the far turn and into the lane, three-sixteenths of a mile to run and things were changing on the front end as Rogue Commando continued to show the way but Crypto moved up on his outside to look that one square in the eye.  Chancellor along the rail and still in the middle of this one, then a length and a half to Electile Dysfunction.  Magz next to that one then a length and a half to Spiced, Everymanforhimself on the far outside, down to the rail for Grayte Lion, then Fire Marshall Bill and Humble And Forgiving.

Inside the final sixteenth and down to the finish, Crypto moved up quickly to take over and was pulling away late to go under the wire clear by a length, taking his biggest win to date.  Rogue Commando continued on well and was clearly second best today, grabbing the second spot.  It was a gap of two back to Magz in third, a neck better than Electile Dysfunction in fourth.  Chancellor tired late to be fifth, then Spiced in sixth, Grate Lion seventh, Fire Marshall Bill and Everymanforhimself finishing in the mandatory dead-heat and Humble And Forgiving was tenth.

Crypto is a 3yo bay gelding by Tax Reform – Deep Blue Ocean, by Scott The Great, and he was bred by Woogaloo in Cal.  Acquired prior to this race by Maxmillion Farm for $175.000, by private purchase, he now shows three wins from six starts and lifetime earnings of $309.960.  Congrats to the Connections!

Crypto tracked the pace, moved up when asked into the lane, look over inside the final furlong, won driving.  Rogue Commando pressed the pace, taking over into the far turn, lead into the lane, caught, continued on well.  Magz rated back, advanced on the far turn and through the lane, no threat to the top pair.  Electile Dysfunction gave an even effort.  Chancellor set the pace to the far turn, continued to battle to the furlong marker, tired.  Spiced had not excuse.  Grayte Lion ground saving trip, not involved.  Fire Mashall Bill  was not a factor.  Evermanforhimself was outrun.  Humble And Forgiving trailed.
