Crypto Takes on Five in Sexton Mile

Sexton Mile – Grade 3 – Blue Express

LS – 1 Mile – Dirt

For Three Year Olds and Upward

May 29, 2023

This race has been run since 2004 when the legendary Alpha Ultimo won. Back then it was known as the Texas Mile. The race was renamed to the Sexton Mile in 2021. Under any name, this is shaping up to be a good contest.

Crypto has been burning up the track since finishing fifth in the BC Sprint. He’s put together a string of triple-digit SRF figures and a one-mile track record at OP. Higher Drift finished second in the BC Dirt Mile but hasn’t been that close to the winner’s circle since. Looking for his first win of 2023. Blamethespeedparty is due for a big performance after finishing seventh in the Kona Stakes.

1 Blue Express
Owner: Threshold

Changed hands for $30.000 in March, this four-year-old gelding makes his first start for the new connections and also makes a big step up in class. With just two wins to his credit, this is a tough place to make his stakes debut.

2 Blamethespeedparty
Owner: Martyparty

Won the Whitmore (Grade 3) two starts back at six furlongs. Took home place money in the Mr Prospector (Grade 3) two before that. If he follows the pattern of good performance / poor performance, this should be a good one. If you’re not into patterns, you still might want to take a look.

3 Hint Of Sugar
Owner: Arindel

This five-year-old has been knocking on the door of graded stakes all year. He does have a stakes win to his credit as a three-year-old but hasn’t been back to the winner’s circle at that level since. He can turn that around here with a big performance.

4 Wisdom
Owner: Mb Stables

Not a fan of three-year-olds going against older this early, but this colt has already won at stakes level in just four starts. Coming from Mb, you have to take a look. He’ll be helped by a weight break but has a big job ahead of him against these.

5 Higher Drift
Owner: Asgar

Second in the BC Dirt Mile after a win in the Grade 3 Kelso Handicap. Has all the right stuff, just hasn’t been able to put it all together so far this year with two tries at Grade 1 level. This is a softer spot, and he could get a piece of the purse with a good trip.

6 Crypto
Owner: Maxmillion Farm

In his last five starts, he has scored four triple-digit SRF figures and set a new track record at OP in the OP Mile. Should like the distance and looks like the one to beat.
