Custom Continental earned his first victory for Our Athletes (purchased on February 10) in the $250.000 NM Breeders Derby at SUN on Sunday.  He had been winless versus better company since a G1 score in October of his juvenile campaign, but Custom Continental relished the drop to state-bred company and completed the 8.5-furlong journey in 1:41.80.  With the win, the sophomore now has earnings of $517.600 and a race record of 10-4-0-0.

[Rename1653] took the field through fractions of :23.54, :47.20, and 1:10.95 as Custom Continental gradually drew closer from the second-flight.  Just as the field reached the top of the lane, Custom Continental took over from [Rename1653] and the eventual winner held a one-length lead with just a furlong to run.  Running from well back in the field, Cowboys Are King began making a menacing move a soon it was evident that he was the only horse with a chance to run down Custom Continental.  The runner-up was gaining as the wire approached, but it would be Custom Continental who reached the wire first.  Hand Cannon got by his renamed stablemate in the final 50-yards to get the show while the latter was followed by Fire Marshall Bill and Average Savage.

Congratulations to Our Athletes and Custom Continental for winning the 10th running of the $250.000 NM Breeders Derby at SUN.
