SA Oaks – Grade II [KYO]
1 1/16 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $300.000 Filly 3 Year Olds.
1st Decimas Queen Maxmillion Farm Garcia Mar
Well, HRP can be a fickle friend at times but when you have been playing a while to see a horse beaten in turf sprint optional claimer go on to a win in one of the major KYO qualifiers is just a matter of following the signs. Her last two works, a remarkable 1.36 and 3 for the dirt mile and a 1.10 and 3 for the six furlongs are right up there with the KYD qualifiers and were all the clues you really needed because yesterday’s form can be very much past history when they show improvement like that.
Traveling in the perfect position from the perfect draw she quickened smartly and left them for dead stamping herself as a very live win hope for the Oaks. Being a daughter of Decima it is understandable that the turf king thought first of the grass when running her, but she clearly has other ideas and could well be a wonder filly.
2nd Placebo D J C Racing Stables Ferrer J C
Proved the $75.000 spent to secure her was money well spent with a decent second albeit well beaten by the winner. I think she will be worth following through the fillies races all the time she avoids the big names, and she is building a nice record for her race career and in time the breeding shed.
3rd Procomp Fractious Beschizza A
Stalked early then went to the front past halfway but could only whack away at the one pace in the end. This was a better showing and justified her entry here, but I do think her future may lie over sprint trips.
4th Lille Smokey Stover Centeno D E
Another without real form on the board her works were telling us she was up to this, and she ran up to them. Stalking the lead can often be the worst place to be and whilst she kept on, she never looked likely to quicken.
