Delaware Warrior Scores Another for the Elders in The Salvator Mile

The Salvator Mile – Grade III
1 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $150.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.

1st        Delaware Warrior         Nakamura Stables       Vargas J A Jr

Either the older horses have been given a little boost this year, the three’s have been slowed down a bit or this is just a bad crop, but whatever it is i seem to be writing about more older horses winning these races than i have been in recent years. This one was one of three from the stable and it was easy to overlook him against his stable companions. But at five, they seem to have a better chance of beating the weight than at four and he did it with a fair amount of authority winning in a decent time and with a bit in hand. If he is back to his early career form we may see him take another step in this company.

2nd           Forever Thirsty       YME Stable             Davis D

When you see a three year old with good form in races like this you sort of expect them to win but though this one had every chance he just couldn’t quicken up well enough to get close to the winner today. A highly consistent sort there will be more to come from him as the season progresses.

3rd            Jumbo Bite          Nakamura Stables             Ferrer J C

Stalked the lead but could only whack away under the whip. A good enough effort but he doesn’t seem to be on the upward curve at the moment.

4th           Gettysburg         Night Rider Stables        DeCarlo C P

Stayed on nicely for fourth but never got in a serious blow.
