Diametric Measures Up In The True North

Diametric delivered as the heavy favorite in The True North, giving Mb Stables and Velazquez J R a Grade III sprint victory at Saratoga. Sent off at 6-5, the 5-year-old gelding tracked close enough early, advanced into contention by the third call, and finished the 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:14.88 to win by a neck.

The True North was run at Saratoga over a fast dirt track at 6 1/2 furlongs for older horses. The Grade III carried a purse of $400.000. Diametric, owned and trained by Mb Stables, won under Velazquez J R, adding this race to a strong 2026 campaign that already included wins in the CD-G1 and Minesh-G3.

Superbush took the early lead, showing one length in front at the opening call. Death And Taxes was second, Diametric was third, Archiduque fourth, Gold fifth, Luna Radio sixth, Mamba seventh, Baytown Compress eighth, Golic ninth, and Blue Finn tenth.

At the second call, Superbush still led by one length, with Death And Taxes continuing second and Diametric third. Archiduque held fourth, Gold stayed fifth, Mamba moved sixth, Blue Finn advanced to seventh, Luna Radio was eighth, Baytown Compress was ninth, and Golic trailed.

By the third call, Superbush was still narrowly in front, but Diametric had moved into second and was level enough to threaten. Gold advanced into third, Blue Finn moved into fourth, Death And Taxes dropped to fifth, Baytown Compress was sixth, Archiduque seventh, Mamba eighth, Luna Radio ninth, and Golic remained tenth.

In the final run, Diametric finished best and got up to win. Blue Finn continued his late move to finish second, Gold held third, Baytown Compress moved into fourth, Superbush faded to fifth after leading through the first three calls, Death And Taxes finished sixth, Luna Radio seventh, Archiduque eighth, Mamba ninth, and Golic tenth.
