Heading into the race, Diplomatic Chaos seemed like the horse to beat, but that does not always mean that’s how a race will play out. Today at AQU, this filly showed what she was made of, and is now four for four in her career. For some reason, she was not the post time favorite in the race, but the odds don’t always make sense. This is a filly with a lot of class, and she will be valuable part of her trainer’s stable heading into her three year old season. That trainer is D J C Racing Stables, who wins the race for the second time, having also won in 2012 with Osana. The winning jockey is I Ortiz Jr, who wins the stake for the second year in a row, and the third time for his career. Congratulations to them! The time of the victory was 1:09.55, the third quickest in the stake’s history. Let’s take a look at how it was won!

(1/4 Mile- :22.99)- Fresh out of the gate, the quickest two starters in the field would be Ker Splash, from Spankys Barn, and the eventual winner, Diplomatic Chaos from D J C Racing Stables. However, Diplomatic Chaos would back up a couple lengths to a spot just off the lead, and a steady start from Unbendable (Estero Farms) would see her officially be credited with leading the race at the juncture. Five Roses (Aer Stables) also followed her through on the rail, thus making Ker Splash third and Diplomatic Chaos fourth, and battling for that spot with Phunny Devil (Asgar). These five were all within two and a half lengths. It was another length to The Squaw (Team 7 Illusions), and the trailing A Woman Scorned (Threshold) was flat out of the gate.

(½ Mile- :45.78)- Unbendable starts to look a little more assertive on the front end as the field moves around the far turn, and she seems to be in great shape at the top of the stretch holding off the competition. Five Roses and Ker Splash are on each side of her, but a length behind. A hole looks to be developing nicely for Diplomatic Chaos upon exit of the turn, since Ker Splash drifted out an extra lane to oblige for this. If she could show her undefeated form in the stretch, she’d have no excuses here. Phunny Devil hung around in fifth, and neither The Squaw or A Woman Scorned were making a move.

(Finish- 1:09.55)- Diplomatic Chaos took the lane that was setting up for her in the stretch, and showed everyone why she still has not lost in her career. Unbendable lived up to her name, and was resilient in the stretch, and for a little while it may have looked like she might hang on, but she would have to settle for a hard fought runner up that the trainer should be proud of. Ker Splash hung around in this fight too, and did not miss second by much. After there, there was a little bit of a gap to the fourth place Phunny Devil, who simply ran consistently throughout and that was enough for a check. Next, it’d be The Squaw and A Woman Scorned, neither of whom showed much. Five Roses tired out to finish at the rear.

About The Winner: Diplomatic Chaos, trained by D J C Racing Stables, and ridden by I Ortiz Jr, is a two year old filly by Diplomatic Immunity and out of Total Chaos (Holly Summer). She was bred in New York as a second quarter two year old by D J C Racing Stables, and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections!
