Several in this field are looking for their first win of 2022. Australian Romance has won nine times, but not at this level. Still, he could be the one to beat.
Here’s the field:
#1 Seydoux II (Arindel) You’d have to go back to last year to find a win for this four-year-old, although he’s been close several times, like a second in $50.000 claiming company and a second at starter allowance level at SA. Finished a close fourth in the state-bred Empire Classic. This could be his day.
#2 Neo (Arindel) Another four-year-old that is winless this year. In his thirty-one race career, he only has one win to his credit. He is stakes placed with a third in the state-bred Commentator. Will need a big effort here.
#3 Dark Arts (TwinTowersRacing) Another one without a win in 2022. He did put together back-to-back second place performances and a 98 SRF coming into this race, but those two were on turf. He switches back to dirt and shortens up here.
#4 The Strip (Parkers Pride) Winless in 2022, too. Has some good performances in state-bred company, but not at stakes level. Another one that needs a big effort.
#5 Arrest Me Red (First Flight Stable) Three-year-old broke his maiden in state-bred MSW company this year but hasn’t been able to get another win since.
#6 Niners Gold (Night Rider Stables) Only one start this year for this gelding. Finished third by a head in that effort at state-bred optional claiming level. Needed that race after a nine-month layoff. Could put in a big performance here.
#7 Broadway Bay (Angelos Stable) With back-to-back wins, this gelding comes in with a good chance to take home part of the purse. The short turnaround from is last start at the end of November is a bit concerning, but if he can overcome that, he has a good chance to take home money.
#8 Australian Romance (Ace Racing Stable) The oldest horse in the field has more wins this year than the rest of the field combined. But many of those were at free level or low-level claimers. Fifth in his last start at stakes level. Even so, he could be the favorite at post time.
