Eight Fillies Set to Go in SUN Oaks

SUN Oaks – $300.000

SUN – 1 1/16 Mile – Dirt

For Fillies Three Years Old

March 25, 2023

Even for fillies with no KYO points, the dream is still alive. The winner of the SUN Oaks will earn 50 points, which almost surely will be enough to garner a spot in the gate for the KY Oaks.

Here’s the field:

1 Blind Appeal (Nakamura Stables)

Except for a poor performance in the Honeybee (Grade 3) last out in the slop, this filly would be undefeated. That was also the only time she went beyond seven furlongs. Works aren’t as strong as some, but she is a proven graded winner and that earns her some respect and 20 coveted KYO points.

2 I Want A lot (Mb Stables)

Still a maiden after four starts. Her best efforts got her third. Seems a bit outclassed here.

3 Balius (Threshold)

Won the $65.000 BorderPlex Stakes two starts back. Finished fourth in the Honeybee last out in a tough field. Working well. If she can get away better than she did in the Honeybee, she could be in the mix.

4 Almost Sinning (Arindel)

Three wins in five starts, including the $100.000 South Ocean Stakes in ON-bred company. Can’t really get behind this one.

5 Gumption (Alydar Stables)

Won the Grade 1 Frizette at two but hasn’t lived up to the promise of that day since. She’s managed to earn 18 KYO points. She’s going to have to prove herself. Maybe this will be her time.

6 She Is Quick (Maxmillion Farm)

Broke her maiden last out. Another one who will have to prove herself. This is the farthest she has ever run and the toughest field she has ever faced.

7 Syclone (Fractious)

Won the Pocahontas (Grade 3) in September but hasn’t made it back to the winner’s circle since. She’s got the ability, can get the distance, she’s just going to have to step up and do it.

8 Silly Relleno (Rock Creek)

Only two starts and a maiden win for this filly. Another one that probably needs some experience.
