Eight to the Gate for The Turf Dash at TAM

2/20/21

  16  TAM    The Turf Dash

             $100.000          4yo&Up    5f   Turf          122lbs

Turf sprinting is the name of the game as we head down to Oldsmar where we can stop by Big John’s Alabama BBQ and take in a nice group of eight in The Turf Dash, going five furlongs on the TAM lawn.  I’m giving the top choice to the hot hand and Opus Concerto comes into this on a three race win streak.  He looked good taking the Hernandez (GII) at FG and looks ready to pounce again today.  I’d give Flooded a big look as well, as he just never seems to run a bad race (sans the BC race) and he should be a big factor in the late stages of this one.

Here’s The Field –

1
One Man Show    Maxmillion Farm    Ferrer J C   122   9/2

Three wins last season while putting away some good cash but his last two have been questionable.  Eleventh on BC Day and then came back to finish last in the Hernandez Stakes  (GII) on the SA downhill.  This is a bit softer that those so let’s see if he can turn it around and get back after it.

2
   Shattered Pieces    Rampage Stable    Castanon J L   122   7/2

Comes into this one off of back-to-back wins on the FG grass, closing out 20 with a win on the soft sod against OptAlw types, then kicked off this season taking the Kenner on a firm course.  With his current form, I think you have to give him a look.

3
Opus Concerto    Drabfantasy    Camacho Sa   122   9/5

Didn’t miss a check last season, showing three wins and a pair of thirds from his five starts, then kicked off the 21 season with a nice win in the Hernandez at SA.  On the board in eight of ten lifetime… he can fly.

4
Olympic Raider    Black N Gold Stable    Suarez A   122   6/1

A pair of wins last season, but he’s been facing softer than this.  Was third in his 21 debut at FG going today’s distance, but he’s going to need his very best to be part of this one.

5
   Troublemakerz    Mis Hijos Stable    Centeno D E   122   8/1

Another that has been facing softer than these and comes into this off of a pair of races at today’s distance after being more of a miler.  He was third and fifth at TUP facing Alw horses, and it certainly won’t get any easier today.

6
   House Party    Martyparty    Diaz H R Jr   122   5/1

Five wins last year so you know this one has the ability.  Closed out 20 win a win vs. Alws at GP, then started this season with a fourth in the Kenner at FG.  He was only a long neck back in that race, but he will need to show a bit more early speed, I believe.

7
   Flooded    Estero Farms    Gallardo A A   122   7/2

Another solid sprinter… he was twelfth on BC Day, but bounced back to be the runner up in the Janus at GP last out, only beaten a half length.  He had two nice wins last season including the Woodford (GII) at KEE, so he can handle this type of foes.

8
Transit Hit    Maxmillion Farm    Alvarado R Jr   122   5/1

Took him six races to break maiden but has won both starts since changing hands for $30.000 back in July.  Lightly raced type with gaps in his form, but that two for two makes you think twice.  He has shown good speed and shortens up here today.
