Eleven Fast Freshman Fillies Line Up in Matron Stakes

The Matron, Purse $200.000, Grade 2, 6 Furlongs, Dirt for 2 Year Old Fillies

Today at BEL is a very nice Grade 2 race for some quick 2 year old fillies. This is technically the last race where 2 year old fillies can get points into the Breeders Cup Juvenile Filly race but the horses would have to hurry back on 13 days rest if they wanted to run their.  Let’s take a look at the field and see if we can separate some of these runners :

1-Roller Coaster (Blushing Meadows)- She has started 4 times with one of those starts resulting in a win and 1 third place finish. The win came 3 races back at SAR going today’s distance on the dirt in a MSW race. She was impressive in that race getting up to the wire just in time at the end. She was then stepped up into 2 stakes races after that win in August and September where she finished 3rd and 4th respectively. She decided to cut back in distance this race back to her winning trip, while trying to notch her first graded stakes win. She posted a nice solid dirt mile work time out of her last race, but has not posted anything shorter.

2-Flasher (Bigking)- She has started 3 times with one start a win. That win came 2 races back on the 4th of July going today’s distance at LA. She was then stepped up off that race into an overnight stakes race going 7 furlongs at AP in late August. She was sold after that race for $50.000 and has posted a couple of solid works including a 112 flat track B going today’s distance. She looks like one that will have to step up to compete here.

3-My Lg (Jkk Racing Stables)- She has stated 4 times in her career with 1 win in those starts. That win came back July 9th at PID in a MSW race going today’s trip. She was then stepped up into stakes company in her next 2 starts where she ran respectably but did not manage to hit the board, finishing 5th and 4th respectively. She appears to have come out of those stakes races well and posted a nice 5 furlong workout in the morning.

4- Senoriata Pachuca (Smithtown Stables)- She has started 4 times with 3 wins coming from those starts. She is on a nice 3 race win streak which started with a MSW win on June 14th then followed that up in July with a claiming win. Those races were going 5.5 and 6 furlongs respectively on the dirt. She was then placed in the auction ring where she fetched $10.000. She was stepped up to an allowance race out of the auction and she responded with a nice win going 5.5 furlongs. She is stepping up in class here but has shown the ability to win. She posted a nice solid 5 furlong track breeze after her last win.

5-Checks In The Mail (Jackrussell farms)-  She has started 2 times in her career with a win and a 2nd place finish. Her win came in her last start where she won an overnight stakes race going today’s trip. That win came back on September 6th so she should be nice and rested for her race today. She has posted 3 works after that win and it looks like she will like sprinting better than going long. You have to give this one a look based upon her maiden breaking score in a stakes race.

6-Risk Taker (D J C Racing Stable)-She has started 4 times with 2 wins and a third place finish. Her wins came in her races 2 and 3 back where she won a MSW race going 5.5 furlongs and then followed that up with a allowance win going 6.5 furlongs. She was then stepped up into a statebred stakes race going 7 furlongs where she ran well but finished off the board. She has not posted a public work since that win but she looks like she has the speed to compete here.

7-Hot Seller (MB Stables)- She has started just 1 time in her career and she ran a very nice 2nd in a MSW going 7 furlongs at ELP on August 28th. Since that race she has been working well posting many solid works in the morning with her best work in my opinion being her 112 breeze at AQU on September 27th. She has the look of a horse that is ready to step up off her maiden voyage, will it be enough to take down this field?

8- B K D House (Drabfantasy)-She has started 6 times with 2 wins 2 second place finishes and a 3rd place finish. Both of her wins have come on the dirt first in a MSW race going 5 furlongs, the next was in a statebred stakes races going 5.5 furlongs. One of her 2nd place finishes also came in a statbred stakes race sprint on the dirt so it appears that this is what she likes to do best. Last race she tried sprinting on the turf and it did not appear that she liked that finishing off the board for the first time. She is stepping into graded stakes company for the first time but based upon her statebred stakes performance she has to be the favorite to win here.

9- Dead To Rights (Aarons Hosses)- She has started one time and that was on October 1st going 6 furlongs on dirt in a MSW in which she responded with a nice win. She has posted one public work since that win, and it was an alright 112 an 1 H work, that appears to have him a cut below some of the other horses in here. Can she move forward off that win in her maiden voyage?

10- Angry Curator (Sarah Stables)- She has stated 4 times with 1 win and a third Her win came back in her maiden voyage June 21st at PLN where she won a MSW race going 5.5 furlongs on the dirt. Since that win she has raced 3 times in stakes company with her best result coming 2 races back in a statebred stakes at DMR when she finished 3rd. She tried going long against Grade 1 company last time and finished a respectable 5th. She has not posted a public work since that race so I am not sure if she is moving forward off that win but has shown some class.

11-Level Moon (Asgar)- She comes in having started 4 times with 2 wins including a stakes win. Her wins came 2 and 3 races back going 4.5 and 5 furlongs respectively on the dirt. The stakes win was a 5 furlong race at WO where she won by ½ length. She was then stepped up to the Grade 2 Sorrento Stakes going 6.5 furlongs at DMR where she was near the pace early but faded a bit in the end to finish 4th. She has been given over 2 months off after that race and recently posted a solid 58 an 2 5 furlong handy work at LA, which makes me think she is still in good form.

Here is a tough race for 2 year old fillies who are looking to add the phrases graded stakes winner to their resume. The winner can come from many different spots here in this race but I had to try and separate some of them. With that said here is my prediction: 6-1-7-2
