Empire World Shows Plenty of Heart to Win The Great Lady M Stakes

The Great Lady M Stakes (Grade 2)- $200.000 Purse
LA- For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Upward
Six and a Half Furlongs on the Dirt
July 5, 2021

It seemed as though several horses in the Great Lady M Stakes had a great shot to win the race, and even with the horse that we picked pulling a no show, we still were able to enjoy a competitive race that saw Empire World move her record to .500, by narrowly defeating Data Overload. Empire World is trained by Maxmillion Farm, and that trainer wins the race for the first time. This is also true for jockey A Cedillo. Congratulations to them! The time of the race was 1:14.97, and that is a stake record for the times that it was run at six and a half furlongs. Let’s take a look!

(¼ Mile- :22.83)- Silver Jazzmin, out of The Sidley Stud, is the quickest out of the gate, and holds a slight advantage over Night Rider Stables-trained Oneida, who is running to her inside on the rail. Initially, there was a group of five right behind them, but just as they got to this point, we began to see Threshold’s Sinissipi Strange emerge from that group and take hold of the third position. Empire World, our eventual winner from Maxmillion Farm, is in a comfortable stalking position while on the rail, only a length out of it. Data Overload (Mb Stables) matches her stride while in the third lane, and running between them, though a quarter length behind, is Baptisted By Fire (Mo Mentum Farm). Obvious Deception (Nakamura Stables) is with this group too, and is five wide in the backstretch. It’s another length to the trailer, El Gran Condottieri (John Henry).

(½ Mile- :45.80, Top of stretch, 1.8F To Go)- Silver Jazzmin and Oneida battle one another fairly hard while rounding the turn, and Sinissipi Strange remains three wide, and running even with them. It would be the Threshold filly that pops a head in front of the top of the stretch, but with room that opened up on the rail, things were setting up very well for a horse that knows how to win a race, that being Empire World. She had a great trip to this point, and is in a great position for the stretch. There was a nice lane that opened up for Data Overload, too, and while it was not as ideal as the rail, it gave her a great opportunity as well. Obvious Deception was hanging tough, too. Baptisted By Fire didn’t have a lane to work with, and El Gran Condottieri seemed to prefer watching it unfold with the best seat in the house.

(Finish- 1:14.97)- Empire World kept a graceful stride in the stretch, and made the pass of Sinissipi Strange with about a furlong to go. She’d have a new concern, though, as Data Overload had a great run going, and Obvious Deception was giving it her all. With every stride, Empire World was made to work hard, but she would show tremendous heart in hanging on and winning the race in a four way photo with Data Overload, Obvious Deception, and Sinissipi Star. It was a length to Baptisted By Fire, and another to Silver Jazzmin. Then, it’s Oneida and El Gran Condottieri.

About The Winner- Empire World, trained by Maxmillion Farm, and ridden to victory by A Cedillo, is a four year old filly by Neon Wolf, and is out of the late Origami. She was bred by Smokey Stover in Florida as a second quarter two year old, and acquired by Maxmillion Farm by virtue of a $12.500 claim in October 2020. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her eighth in 16 starts, fourth with Maxmillion, and is fourth stake win (three graded). Her career earnings are now $638.120.
