Enoughs Enough Makes BC Distaff Case with Cotillion Win

Cotillion Stakes (Grade 1)- $1,000.000 Purse
PRX- For Fillies Three Years Old
One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Dirt
September 22, 2018

It was a great day of racing at PRX, and a long day. Bettors had the opportunity to wager of 27 live races in front of them, part of a day that was not over just when the big races were complete. The big race of the day is the PA Derby, and Pretty Ferro once against proved his greatness. However, the fillies had their big race as well, and as much as we liked talking about the BC Classic, a case was made in the Grade 1 Cotillion for the BC Distaff. This is always a big race for the Distaff, and Enoughs Enough scored her third graded stake win in four starts against a field loaded with talent, and did so by two lengths. Her trainer is Mb Stables, who actually wins this race for the first time. The BC Distaff is also another race that Mb Stables has not won, so as much as other trainers want to say “enough’s enough” to him and his successes, there is more out there that he can accomplish. Jockey R Bejarano is now a two-time Cotillion winner, having also won the race in 2013, with Karloff. The time of the win was 1:41.87, and is among the quicker times in the stake’s history. Let’s take a look!

(1/4 Mile- :24.05)- Out of the starting gate, the post time favorite, Smokey Stover’s Goosebumps has them ready to run early and, with the company of La Terrifiant, out of Our Athletes, a sizeable gap is opened up over the rest of the field. The opening quarter is not an unbearable time, though, as the lead becomes three as they make their way into the opening turn. In that position behind the pacesetters, we find our eventual winner, Enoughs Enough, for Mb Stables, and she has company to her inside in the form of Night Rider Stables’ filly, Lake Wendigo. It’s another length to the fifth place Five Million, for TwinTowersRacing, and Misty Firefox is five off the field. The three in the back seemed to be just as eager to assume that position as Goosebumps and La Terrifiant were to get to the front. Diminuendo (Blushing Meadows), Blue Jeans (First Class Stable), and Eponine (D J C Racing Stables) are those trailers.

(½ Mile- :47.57)- Around the opening turn, and midway through the backstretch, Goosebumps and La Terrifiant pick it up a little bit in order to maintained their three length advantage on the rest of the field. The new third place horse is Diminuendo, who had a pretty interesting first half mile, as she seemed to very eager to go to the back, and then in the backstretch, she raced as if she was coming to the finish in order to pull even with Enoughs Enough and Lake Wendigo. That is now a threesome for the third position. Five Million is a length and a half behind them. Misty Firefox dropped back a bit to now run with Blue Jeans and Eponine.

(Top of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- At the end of the backstretch, and around the turn, the rest of the field began to close in on our two pacesetters. Though, at the front, La Terrifiant was looking to be more capable of hanging on to the lead, then would be Goosebumps. The interesting trip of Diminuendo continued, as she runs about four-five in the turn, and is most ambitious of the three she had been running with. She is now just length and a half back. Enoughs Enough and Lake Wendingo were waiting for their time to strike, and R Bejarano had to love the opening that was just sitting right there in front of him to take without having to alter Enough Enough’s path. It was a gap of two and a half lengths to the remaining four in the field, who needed to get moving now if they wanted a chance to win.

(Finish- 1:41.87)- Enoughs Enough was more then happy to take the lane that had set up nicely for her, and rather effortlessly took command of the race in the stretch. There was no one in the field that would be able to challenge her, and she is able to win rather convincingly. While she did have a nearly perfect trip, this is an impressive win over a star-studded field. It looked like we might have a three way dead heat for second between Diminuendo, Lake Wendigo, and La Terrifiant, but the photo sorts them out in that order. Thought Diminuendo might have more for the stretch, but at the same time, I’ve seen that before out of her. Misty Firefox takes fifth, but may have been a little flat here, given her talent level. Goosebumps settles for sixth, but never disappeared from contention. Eponine is next, while Blue Jeans and Five Million disappoint. Unless you had them in the survivor competition.

About the Winner- Enoughs Enough, trained by Mb Stables, and ridden to victory by R Bejarano, is a three year old filly by Grandeur, and is out of Panoramique. She was bred in Florida as a second quarter two year old by Mb Stables, the only trainer she has ever known. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her sixth in ten starts, her fifth stake win, and fourth graded win. Her career earnings are now $1,136.400.
