Well what can i say, this is the story i wanted to write and it is great to be the one to write it. This trainer who has less career starts than most of the top stables have in a fortnight took their fourth graded stakes and they are all thanks to this great mare. Not drawn perfectly, she just ran her race the way she wanted to run it and was typically brave to the line to win by a half length. Claimed from Smokey Stover for forty dollars back in 2020 she has risen through the ranks and after this win and a third in the BC Fillies and Mares Turf last year must rank one of the best females in training. She had raced 18 times for Smokey Stover and whilst running very solid races really only started her run to the top when the new trainer decided to have a sustained go at better races. Congratulations to The American on a famous victory and i hope i am still writing about her come November.

Though the trainer may be smarting a little after losing the winner to a claim they will be happy enough with second and third. This filly that of course beat Ewa Beach in the BC Fillies and Mares Turf last year couldn’t repeat the feat over this shorter trip but ran like she will be right back to winning form very soon.

3rd   Yankee Stadium         Smokey Stover        Gutierrez Mario

When this horse closed up at the turn for home i thought she was going to prove the freak i thought she was but she found little under the drive and never looked like getting better than third. Still very lightly raced and at only four she has more improvement than both of her rivals still to come so she may well be turning the tables on them in a few months.

4th  Fangs Of The Storm      Arindel         Rocco J S Jr

Did very well from the horrible draw going up onto the pace and fighting for a long time before running out of puff down the stretch. This was a nice effort and with a better draw i would expect her to get closer still.
