Field Of Eight for The IND Derby

                             The IND Derby – GII
                        IND Race 2 1 1/8M – Dirt
                               Purse $500.000
                               Three Year Olds

A midsummer derby as people would call it as we travel to Indiana for their biggest race of the year on the game and in real life. A field of eight three year olds will line up and try to get the win with no stables having more than one entry in the race. Let’s take a look at the field of eight three year olds.

1. Red Angel Dragnet (7-2-3-1 $103.180), trained by Jader Stable

This Jader Stable runner has been knocking on the door in almost every start. He ran second first out at TP in a stake for Jader Stable and and has came back with a fifth then a third and then a second last out. His new running style is too come from behind but has been close to the pace before.

2. Corum Jhaelen Irsei (10-3-1-3 $196.020), trained by Boomtown

Here is a horse who I think will run a very big race in here as he finally gets to run with three year olds only again. In his last two starts he ran third in both the PIM Special and last time in the Foster Handicap which was a very tough race. He will definitely be tough in here and is my top pick.

3. Portal (6-2-3-1 $104.200), trained by Estero Farms

A recent stakes winner who is coming in from the barn of the derby winning trainer Estero Farms. He just won the six furlong Gold Fever Stakes last out at BEL and that was actually a while back in May. I don’t know if he will like the stretch out at all but I guess we will find out when the race runs.

4. Rumble (9-4-1-1 $394.380), trained by D J C Racing Stables

The only runner coming from the wizards barn is this hard trying three year old who ran ninth in the Belmont Stakes last out. Before that he won two stakes in a row including the Peter Pan at BEL. I think he has a legitimate chance in here and I will definitely have him in my top four picks for the race.

5. Whiskey Creek (8-2-2-0 $59.480), trained by Calia Stable

What looks like on the form the speed horse of the race ever since he got claimed he’s been in front in every race at the first call. Twice that running style and twice he has ran fourth doing that. If he blows to the front like he has been he better set some very slow fractions to have a chance.

6. Champion In Action (11-3-1-1 $177.000), trained by Night Rider Stables

Another one who is coming out of the Belmont Stakes right here he ran eighth in there. The out before that he won the Sir Barton at PIM on Preakness weekend. I do think he fits in pretty good in this field though since it hasn’t drawn any of the best three year olds we’ve seen so far this year.

7. Pass Me By (6-4-0-1 $175.030), trained by Mb Stables

The Mb Stables trained horse is coming off of a grade three win last time in the Winn at CD last time. He ran pretty good that day and I think he is on the improve right now so he may be primed for a big race. He’s on the rise I think and he has the top trainer in the game in his corner also.

8. Di Farley (10-4-0-2 $164.100), trained by Gdp Inc

Another recent stakes winner in the field here this horse won the Easy Goer at BEL last time. He ran really good and got up by a nose to win and I think he is improving every time. The trainer has been on a roll also so I think he has a legitimate chance to spring an upset and win the race honestly.

Summary

A very even matched field is lining up in here I think and I believe almost any of them can have a serious shot to win. Corum Jhaelen Irsei is going to be my top pick because he has been running with older horses and finally gets a chance to run with three year olds only. Good luck to all in the race.
