Finite Shows Infinite Ability in The Davis Stakes

10 TAM     The Davis Stakes (GIII) [KYD]

        $250.000            3yo           1 1/16m  Dirt           120lbs

Dynark Stables’ Finite used speed and patients to get the job done and further his Triple Crown asperations, taking The Davis Stakes GIII by a quarter length, getting the mile and a sixteenth in 1:41.41.  Currax was close-up throughout this affair and took the second spot a half length better than Immoral in third.

The field of eleven left the starting gate in good order with Finite showing good speed from the outside, a lineup chasing that one that included Master Puppet, Came Home, Currax, Graveyard and Boardwalk, Blue Cobra on the outside of that group, then   Immoral, Mint Frappuccino, Local Dude and Hollywood Capo was away slowest of all.

Around the clubhouse turn and six furlongs left to run, Currax moved up to take the lead, Master Puppet on his outside, Finite grabbed control of the rail and was allowed to settle in third, Immoral caught wide in fourth, Came Home to his inside.  Another length back to Hollywood Capo, Graveyard on his inside, Boardwalk up the rail, another gap to Local Dude on the outside of Blue Cobra and Mint Frappuccino was now the back marker, eight lengths covered the field.

Down the backside and nearing the far turn, a bit more than three furlongs to run and Immoral had moved up and moved out to a two length advantage.  Currax now tracking that one, another length back to Finite on the rail, Master Puppet on his outside, another length to Came Home, then a length to Graveyard between horses, Boardwalk still saving
ground, Hollywood Capo three wide, two lengths to Local Dude, Blue Cobra on the rail and Mint Frappuccino continued to trail.

Swing around the turn and into the lane, flying past the three-sixteenths pole and Immoral’s lead was dwindling as Currax and Finite were moving in quickly.  Master Puppet feeling the sting of the whip and trying to move up, Graveyard on his outside Boardwalk trying to advance up the rail, then a gap to Hollywood Capo, Came Home and Local Dude side by side, Blue Cobra up the rail and Mint Frappuccino had a lot of work to do and a short time to get it done.

Inside the final 150-yards and to the finish, three across the track but Finite now with a neck in front, Currax down the outside, Immoral trying to find more… but as they hit the wire, there was no denying Finite and he won this one by a long neck over Currax with Immoral the just behind that one in third.  Graveyard was a short nose back in fourth, then Boardwalk just in front of Master Puppet for fifth and sixth.  Local Dude was seventh, Hollywood Cap in eighth, Blue Cobra ninth, Came Home tenth and Mint Frappuccino was eleventh.

Finite is a black 3yo gelding by Mr Creepy – Beyound The Pedals, by Fabio Pedals and he was bred by Oquinn Farms in NY.  Sold at the Sept 19 Auction for $4.430, this was his second win from three starts and pushes his earning to $187.200 and puts him right in the thick of the TC conversation.

Finite broke fastest of all, crossed to the rail, relaxed while tracking the pace, responded when asked mid lane, won driving.  Currax showed good speed throughout, all out to wire, just missed in a good effort.  Immoral tracked early, up quickly to take over, led to the lane, headed could not find more. Graveyard raced mid-pack, some late foot.  Boardwalk taken back early, steady improvement while no threat.  Master Puppet showed good early speed, weakened late.  Local Dude outrun, passed tiring rivals.  Hollywood Capo was outrun.  Blue Cobra was outrun.  Came Home some early foot, tired.  Mint Frappuccion never a factor, outrun.
